New to fishing crappies with jigs. Do I need to use a scent if I am using jigs without a minnow on it?

I always use crappie nibbles, unless I'm in them good, but that's when they'll hit anything.

I'm convinced scent does make a difference most of the time. A good number of folks will tell you crappie feed by sight only, but I don't agree.

I've never used it but I would have today if I'd had any. I could see where it would be a benefit when the water is muddy.

Crappie are visual feeders and 95 percent of the time I have found that I don't need scent.

I use Megastrike "original" flavor, have for years. When they swallow a plastic jig you must be doing something right.

May not be necessary all the time but I'm not changing now.

I believe that it is a confidence thing. I have caught fish with or with out scents. it all depends on what they are feeding on and how they are feeding and if they are hungry or a reaction bite. There are many variables that will effect how they feed. Time of year, location, depth, bait fish size, season and so on.

good fishing

I don't know if scents make crappie bite but I do believe they make them hold on to the bait a few seconds longer when they do take a bait. If you have ever seen how fast a fish spit a bait you will see why scents can be important.
