Launched from Cassels at 7:00 am. Looked at these areas in this order prepping for an upcoming tourney in a couple of weeks and did some scouting of new flooded areas for later in the spring. Water started at 54.5 deg in the morning and rose to 58.9 deg by 4:00pm. I know the lake will be totally different in a couple of weeks but here is what we saw Friday.

Monterrey- Muddy
Caynons-Muddy
Coleman- Stained but very fish-able. Shad mainly holding in the outer 1/3 of the creeks.
Veach- Outer 1/2 Heavy Stain. Inside 1/2 tapered to muddy
Lucas- Same as Coleman but got muddy in the back of course.
Caddel- UGLY all the way out to the main lake
Outer Black Forrest to Peckerwood water looked good. Bait everywhere.
Mudd Creek held true to its name.
Harvey/Indian- Fishable but taperd to muddy in the back but little bait past the 1/2 way mark
Julie was pretty much the same. Mouth fishable but got bad past 1/2 way.

Fishing was very slow early but picked up after 1pm. Fish seemed to start a heavy feed at about 2pm and were catchable on most moving baits. Bushes are looking great. Grass was 7-9 ft below the surface at that time. Rayburn is setting up to be a close combat fishing lake this spring if the water stays at least 3+ pool. The last time I saw this much water this early and forecast into the spring(2016) it produced some of the best fishing in years and also set up a spawn that fish were able to get deep into cover that could not be easily reached. In my opinion we are reaping that reward right now for that protected the 2016 spawn and fry hatch.
Hazard Warning- We dodged at least 4 floaters that would have hurt and one that would have ended our day. Trust me, they are hard to see. I can only imagine its gotten worse since Friday.
Good luck this season. Stay safe.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways with a fishing rod in one hand, 10# LMB in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and yelling "Wow! What a Ride!
