I need some help here. I've been a motor guide guy my whole life. So which is a better trolling motor and why. Terrova or Ulterra? Should i spend the extra on the ulterra and is it worth it.. The reason is spot-lock Thanks for the help
I never lie. I just never tell the whole truth lol

I've got the Ultrex with spot lock, the other two have self deploy which is great I suppose unless it fails and then you're up the proverbial creek w/o a paddle. Terrova doesn't have spot lock to my knowledge.

The terrova does not have automatic stow and deploy. The ulterra does. Both have identical ipilot capabilities. Both are great motors. Motorguide's version would be the xi5. Its comparable to a terrova with pinpoint gps capabilities (motorguide's version of ipilot)
Id go with Minn Kota.

Id go with Minn Kota. My bad, I saw the stow lever and thought it was stow/deploy. Yep, can't go wrong with MK.

The ultrex is by far better than the terrova, ulterra, or anything else. I hated The fully electronic foot pedals the response time sucked

Yes, Ultrex is far better. Don't have to worry about replacing batteries in the foot pedal.

If money is no object, Ultrex is only way to go. I had an ultrex on the boat I sold in April. It's a game changer, no doubt. I'm trying to fix up RedRanger's '99 Ranger now and decided to put a 2018 Fortrex on it instead of the Ultrex. I could not bring myself to putting a $2,300 TM on a 20yr old boat. I also got a smokin' deal on the 80lb Fortrex, $700. IMO....Minnkota has surpassed Motorguide now for years in TM technology.

My boat is 20yrs old and I put an Ultrex on it. I wouldn't ever want to have a boat without one. It's worth every penny.

I switched from a MG hand controlled to the Ulterra and love it. I hadn't used a cable steer system in 30 yrs so the transition to the Ulterra was a breeze.

They are virtually identical except that the Ulterra has the auto deploy/stow feature. Minn Kota does not use batteries in their foot controls. I switched from Terrova to Ulterra and wouldn't trade it for any other TM. It is really nice to back the boat into the lake and use the auto deploy feature when you are fishing solo. The deploy/stow feature really saves a lot of the back pain after a full day of fishing not having to lift and lower 50 times a day. I never realized how much that actually effected me after a days fishing until I didn't have to do it any more. If you are young and have a good back you can save a few bucks and just get the terrova. The improved spotlock on the newer models is spot on and you'll never want to fish without it once you try it.
