That the people that own these %^*& wakeboard boats seem to do everything in their power to get as close as possible to people who are fishing? This afternoon a buddy of mine and I were fishing Canyon Lake north of San Antonio in an area that has a lot of flooded timber along one side of the creek. One guy kept running back and forth within 50 yards of us and throwing up a wake so big we had to leave because it was becoming dangerous. He had the whole dang lake to do this, and there wasn't a wind problem, yet he kept doing it even after we asked him nicely and then not so nicely to give us a little room. I just don't get it-I guess they think they own the lake and could not care less that other people are also on the water. Courtesy is definitely becoming a thing of the past.

You should try to fish the bubbles (or anywhere in the dam area) at Grapevine on the weekend. It's almost like they want to see how close they can get to your boat.

It's funny they buzz by you 20 yards away & then waive at you like we are all friends. (i just waive the finger back, but some of them still can't get the picture)

Is there a law that dictates a minimum distance that one must keep from another vessel on the water?

No minnimum distance that I can find, however this is from the TPWD boating sagety digest.

It is unlawful to:

2. Operate so as to cause a hazardous wake or wash.
3. Operate in a circular course around fishermen or swimmers.
10. Operate any vessel or manipulate any water skis, aquaplane or similar device, in a willful or wanton disregard of the rights or safety of others and at a speed or in a manner so as to endanger or be likely to endanger any person or property. (Violation of this provision shall be punishable, upon conviction, by a fine of not less than $200 nor more than $2,000 or by confinement in jail not to exceed 180 days or both.)

Take a video camera or still camera with you. When this happens, just start shooting photos / video. Be sure to capture the registration numbers on the hull. You will be surprised how fast they will dissapear.

My buddy was wondering if these (insert your favorite term here) were going to motor over and start something, and I said we have one thing they don't: Treble hooks grin

You have to be at least 50 ft from another boat when at a speed above idle. I know this because I know someone who recieved a ticket for it.

I chased a guy on a jet ski around Lavon last season roughly two feet off my bow because he thought it would be nice to run past me while i was fishing. I doubt he will ever do that again.

Remember one thing...a boat at full speed can not hear you....but if they have a skiier.... the skiier can hear.
suggentions about how their anatomy would look with a trebble hook tends to make them stop skiing.

The bite got slow, so I started to clean my catch. At one point, a cobalt with two young girls was heading directly for me at full speed. They were within 20 of me when I threw the remains of a 4 lbs. bass. It was great, hit and broke the windshield and splattered blood and guts all over the girls. They avoided me and departed back across the lake.
I returned to fishing with some satisfaction over the episode.

About 30 minutes later the Blonde bimbows returned with their lawyer father, who adamantly instructed me on the laws about assault, assault with intent, assault with a deadly weapon. (never knew fish guts were deadly weapons) anyway. I told him where the lakes patrol office was and that I would be fishing her for the next two hour.

About 45 minutes later the cobalt.lawyer..two bimbows and lakes patrol showed up. Bob came over and asked to see my license. Fire extinguisher, horn, registration, life vests and asked How far can you throw a Bass
He then returned to the lawyer and checked his boat. No tag, not enough vests, under aged drivers, driving under the influence, no registration, and everytime the lawyer opened his mouthBob seamed to find something else.
Found out a week later that the final bill was over $1,000 Got to love a homeboy.
woot woot

P.S. I clean my fish (that I will eat that night), and leave the remains on the rock pile where I caught them. Food for the Crawdads who will feed the next generation of LMB's.
It may not be catch N release but it puts food on the table and ensures the future of the crop.

Do you know where that is in writing? I couldn't find it in the TPWD digest. I would like to be able to play that card.
