Maybe talk to the lady? Tell her that if she decided to make a complaint, you would verify her account.. That's what I'd do.
Enough of this idle chit-chat. This ain't no retirement home. EVERYONE! Get back to your oars. The Captain wants to waterski.

Maybe they have something going that you dont know about. I would ask her if it offended her, if so then sure. If not, then leave it alone.

1. Was this in the office during working hours or a work-related event? It's one thing to make off-color comments on your own time. Company time generally calls for a more respectful tone.
2. I agree that I would talk to her about her feelings. If she feels like the comments were inappropriate, encourage her to report him and be willing to back her up if HR asks. If not, I would still make sure that management was made aware of the incident.

Ask her if she would like to go talk about it over a few drinks at a hotel bar.

I know what my training tells me to do... but I think the "ask her if shed like to go talk about it over a few drinks at a hotel bar" sounds much better!

In hindsight, I would have taken care of it on the spot.
Not doing so conveys a signal that you either had no issue with or maybe even condone what was being said.
Sure don't need to be a supervisor/manager to call someone out for acting like an idiot.
Now, I would definitely go and speak with the lady involved.

If she was offended let her report it, if not no problem. PC is out of control Yep. Based on what youve told us, this. At most, Id talk to her about it casually and read the temperature on it. Depending on how she talks about it, I might then tell her you also thought it was out of line, and tell her you will back her up if she feels the need to go to HR. The hotel bar suggestion was the best response.

I don't know how MEN could work in that corporate BS. If someone says something that pizz's you off you take it outside and settle it like men.
