Either one is a great cartridge. I know your set on one or the other but after owning and shooting lots of animals with both I would say spend a little more and get a 280. Extremely accurate in just about any level of rifle. Knock down comparable to a 30 cal with speed of the 270.

Both will outshoot the average shooter.

OP be sure to get a good scope.

this ^^^^ I prefer 270 round or 7MM round. I shoot WSM's in both rounds.

The same thing is happening to the old belted magnums as it did to the .30-06 when the .308 came along.
Many people that don't feel the need the extra range opt. for the slightly reduced version.

You give up the heavier bullets in the caliber and a little bit of top muzzle velocity, but get a shorter, lighter rifle with a tad less recoil.

The ballistics of the short mags is usually equal to the belted mag or better

I am not sure it has. The big gun companies have just about quit building the short mags except in the 270 and 300. The others are just about gone.

Great decision. I have both guns but bought my(first rifle) Remington 700/ADL/270 in 1977. I just finished my 41st season with that gun and it shoots as good as it did the day I bought it. It is my favorite rifle by far. Now..... Let the big dog bark.

Now just remove the cheap scope and toss it in the nearest trash can. A wise man once told me the scope should cost as much or more than the rifle. Once I accepted that for fact I have been much happier with my rifles.
