Has our country let this go too far? Im on a flight right now and the lady next to me has a giant dog. Its very clear she is trying to get people to give her attention. It seems like often times these animals are being used to fan the flames of extremely narcissistic people. A girl I dated back in high school bought a fake service dog vest for her greyhound and she takes that thing everywhere and has it sit at the table at restaurants. She does it to get attention and its really a mockery of those who actually benefit and have a legitimate use for a service animal. This issue really gets under my skin.

For the people who really benefit from having one, is it really necessary to have your service animal around with you 24 hours a day? I mean, can't you take an hour or two break when you go eat or do a little shopping?

I am a dog lover , dont mind when people bring them into my store but you can spot the pet dog versus a trained service dog a mile away.

I find it a selfish abuse of something certain people actually need.

My girls say at Tech that every other kid has one it seems like.

A woman tried to get on southwest with a pet gold fish. Not sure it was a service animal though.

Yes it's out of control, the whole take your animal everywhere is out of control service animal or not. They don't need to be on patios of restaurants, home depot, lowes, target, etc. Legit service animals are one thing, "emotional support animal" what the hell is that.

I'm a big dog person but I have zero interest in having a dog anywhere around where food is being served and people are trying to eat. This is just another example of people thinking they are entitled and the rest of us should adapt to their preferences!

Just another example of people taking advantage of the system.

The wording in the statue is horrendous and needs correcting but still no reason too game the system.

Most definitely out of control, weak minded people need an emotional support animal.

My mom has a [censored] and she has papers for it as a service dog and a little coat. It is just so she can take the dog traveling with her. Its embarrassing.

It is rediculous. I was waiting at an outpatient surgery center for a friend and a woman and her husband came in for a minor procedure for the husband. The woman told the front desk the dog was her emotional support dog and she needed it to support her through her husbands surgery. This is just wrong on so many levels.

The root of the problem is there is not one standard set of measures or one organization that certifies what is a required service animal and what is not. There is no set and defined parameters on what qualifies and what documentation or providence is needed to confirm the need of the animal and its soundness to be considered as a proper service animal and be allowed on flights, in restaurants etc.

There is no governing body or authority on this matter.

Now the way it is, anyone can go online and pay a fee and get a certificate that states Fluffy is an emotional support animal or what not and no one from Southwest, or Chillis, or Kroger can say that Fluffy is or is NOT in fact a certified service animal. To decline them the use of the animal or admittance of the animal is opening yourself up to a discrimination lawsuit and some very bad press perhaps... so they let it go.

So... now that I have defined the issue will someone smarter than me please solve it?

Thanks and god bless.

Saw a guy in Wal Mart with a dinky dog perched on his shoulder. Started doing tricks as soon as the ladies came down the aisle. Chick magnet.
