I don't care how advanced online payment technology becomes, I like having actual checks, deposit tickets, etc as my backup. There are times where one needs to put special endorsement language on a check that just can't be done with online methods.
Had a "special offer" from Deluxe checks for 60% off. Put together my order (3 per page business checks with binder, 2 part deposit tickets, and an endorsement stamp):
$184 (including shipping of $44).
Went to Costco online and placed the same order:
$82 including shipping
There's a no-brainer, eh?

I used Costco a few years ago to order checks. I ordered recycled paper checks and have enough to last the next 20 years. I also found a lady who makes custom leather binders for checks. She made me a really nice looking binder for business sized checks.

I didn't realize that some banks don't give you the checks, I have them and am never charged, but I just get the plain blue ones.

My lawn service guy I pay with a check, and that's it. I wish he would get paypal and then I'd never write one lol. Otherwise haven't written one in years that I can think of. Before I had the service I had a neighbor kid do it, and I always paid him in cash so he would have pocket money for dates n such, but he grew up and went off to college.
Families, those with kids still use them a lot I think - there's always something with school or field trip or afterschool sports, etc that needs payment and checks are used mostly in those situations.

We write about 4 checks a year. Sometimes it just cannot be avoided. What amazes me are the old ladies at Kroger writing a check for their groceries. I think to myself that it is so 20th century.

For what it's worth, I only write about six personal checks a year. But, for business, I write about 150 per month.

Had to go into the make up store the other day for the gal's christmas present. Took me 3 minutes to find what I needed and get in line. It took another 15 minutes to leave because the lady in front of me was fighting her kid who kept trying to take his pants off, find all her coupons in her purse, find the online coupon on her phone and hand write a check at the same time... I almost left her present on the floor and walked out. It was insane. But the worst part was, her total was around $20... why couldn't you just use cash or a bank card???

The kid trying to take his pants off would probably bother me more.
