(I love TW, but this is the most confusing process they could come up with) I have voiced my concern on this to them several times. I've ordered probably 10 rods this year from them.

So, I would advise this: Check your order confirmation email, and somewhere hidden at the bottom is ANOTHER link from TW telling you that you have to pay the additional $5, click on the link and pay it. THEN, call TW with your order number, and make them look it up and confirm that it has been paid. THEN, they will put it in the system in real time, and insure that it will ship out that day. TRUST ME, I've been down this road several times.

Hope this helps, and saves you some headache.

You do realize your doing this for only next day right? The rod over $50 ships free on normal delivery. No extra charge.

I had the same experience. They charged me a separate $5 shipping fee for my rod. There was no mention of next day delivery. In fact, it took a week. The reel was delivered in 2 or 3 days, if I remember correctly.

Maybe the rode was on back order? confused I looked at my last 7 rod orders from TW and none had an extra shipping charge. The only time I have seen a $5 charge was for next day air orders. However, I haven't ordered a rod via Next Day from TW,

The extra $5 only happens if you have more than 1 package. 2 packages @ $5 each and 2 day does not guarantee you get it in 2 days.

Bought one that was delivered last Friday ... 5 business days, standard shipping and no extra charge ... free shipping.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I've probably bought a doz. rods from TW, and never paid an "additional" fee for a rod. Now, since I am in Florida and impatient I always upgrade my orders to 2nd day, which is a $5 fee (per package). So, for instance, if you buy only a rod, and spend the $150 minimum and also then add the free t-shirt, that will have to ship separate from the rod, and if upgrading you'll have to pay the fee for the rod and for the 2nd package (tshirt). For this they will advise in your final order email, and you don't have to do anything, it just occurs and ships. This only affects 2nd day and next day upgrades. Over $50 standard shipping is free, no matter how many boxes, unless there is some special circumstance I'm just not aware of.

Short version, if you are only buying a rod and upgrading shipping, just pass on the free t-shirt unless you don't mind paying the extra $5 or $10. Also, if a large order, ie multiple boxes worth, it's better not to upgrade shipping unless you really, really need it fast smile. When I do bulk replacement type orders, I go with the free shipping as I'm not usually in any hurry. This is also a weight limit to these low cost upgrades - 10lbs for 2nd day, and 4lbs for Next Day air, so large soft plastics or terminal tackle orders might not qualify - another reason to use std. shipping on larger orders.

Also, for any backorders on an order, they will ship them for free only if they wait and ship all your backorders together. If you want TW to ship them as they become available (assuming you have more than one item backordered), then you will pay shipping for each as they ship.

I have ordered somewhere in the ballpark of 50 rods from TW and have never once experienced anything close to what you are talking about. I actually don't think their process could be an easier or transparent.
