Tower Inn on 199 Sansom Park, back in the early 90's a group of us had gone to the stockyards to party, we got pretty lit but it was dead so we decided to roll, cruising down 199 we noticed John Nitzinger was jamming at the buggy wheel so stopped in, we proceeded to get hammered, upon leaving we were paranoid about the fuzz so pulled into the Tower, got 2 rooms and partied on until passed out. Next morning I wake up still drunk and confused as to where the hell I was, I wandered out into the motor court area and should've recognized the landmark signage but did not, so went back in and downed a couple hot beers and a few reds, wondering where my group was and where am I, 30 minutes later they show up, they had walked across the hwy for breakfast at Vivian Courtney's, had I walked out to the hwy I would've most likely recognized where I was at, the rooms were raunchy, walls stained yellow, green shag carpet all nastied up, and roaches mixed with roaches, all in all a great time and I highly recommend this place.

Holidome in west Tennessee.

It had been a very busy day.i had flown across the country and back. We pull into this motel in nowhere Tennessee. I was exhausted..and hungry.

I had my lunch and dinner with me. I had not had time eat all day. I figured a quick shower, eat...sleep. I loosened my tie,sat on the bed to see what was to eat. I opened the lunch box to explore...then something hit me. My butt was soaked. Not damp...soaked.

The maid had made up a wet bed.

Im certain stories are still told about the crazy pilot screaming at the front desk loud enough to echo thru the holidome...

Stopped at Microtel in Baton Rouge on way to Pensacola to stay the night. It had good reviews ......but it was populated with refugees from Katrina. It was a dystopian nightmare with obvious hooking, screaming kids running the halls, kids with sagging [censored] diapers in the hall, and the ground out front was covered in a solid 2 inch layer of butts. We left and drove on through to Pcola.

Somewhere down in Ingleside or Aransas Pass.

I got 75 a day per diem and found me a room for like 120 a week. Pocket the change.

Im pretty sure that the cedars is the one we stayed in that caught fire. I was still in high school then, and my family and I were staying there, I think we had a guide trip out of there for some reason. Dad was a state fire Marshall at the time, so he ended up helping the VFD chief determine the cause of the fire. Outlets werent ground protected if I recall correctly.

For me its a toss up between the Lake Country Motel in West Tawakoni, or the Days Inn in San Angelo. The lake country motel was decently clean, but the other clientele were not. I couldnt get more than 2 hours sleep at a time due to drug deals being made and people arguing. But, after all, its West Tawakoni, whats abnormal about that.

A good friend got us a good deal on rooms at the Days Inn in San Angelo during the Shannon sporting clay shoot one year. His company housed hands there and had a cheap rate. There was a guy on the floor above us pimping two young ladies and eyeballing our stuff. When we carried in all our shotguns for the night I think he got nervous. He was later arrested that night after he tuned up one of the ladies turning trucks. When I made my bed down, there was dried blood on the sheet, and there was also used soap in the shower.

Goodness. Too many to call out just one. The one on Toledo Bend with particle board beds, no heat and cracks in the exterior walls letting cold air in. The one just north of Lufkin that was so bad we left without even trying to get our money back. The one in Zapata that was outfitted NOTHING except a double bed with plastic over the mattress. There have been some great ones, too.

Be safe,

Back when I first started working on the road and had no money I stayed in a lot of pretty bad ones.
The worst was in Claremore Oklahoma. The door would not lock or stay shut and I had to put a chair against it. The wind blew about 40 mph all night and it snowed. Woke up with the door clown open just enough to put a snow drift in the room. Plus I had several bedbug bites. It was a long night and the next night I sprung for a LaQuinta. Which was like staying in the Doubletree to me at the time.

Runner up is the Falcon Motel in Zapata that I mentioned on the other thread. Not much better than the room in Piedras. Someone had wired a tree shaped air freshener to hang in front of the window unit AC. No shower head. No towels provided (found out about that when I stepped out of the shower). I’ve stayed there numerous times.

I've stayed at the Falcon Motel. It looks terrible but it worked fine. Our plumbing did freeze one morning but they said that was the first time it had been that cold.

The Roma Inn, Roma TX in the mid-90s. Looked just like a seedy motel in a movie about drug addicts. Dirty bare concrete floor, just a twin bed and nightstand, a single bare 40-watt lightbulb hanging from a wire in the ceiling, one single hand towel and no soap in the bathroom. Was supposed to be there 4 nights while working on a contract in Roma. Spent one night and then drove back and fourth from a Motel 6 or something in Falcon the rest of the week.

Back in the days of real room keys- the Holiday Inn across from Love Field had a problem with hookers renting a room for one night, then keeping the key.
They'd use the room for their 'business office' after that.

Americas Best in breckenridge. First room smelled and looked like someone rebuilt a Diesel engine in the floor.
Window was broken and you could reach in and unlock the door.
Second room same stay. Pulled the covers back to find short curly hairs on pillows and sheets.
Went to Walmart and bought king sheets , sleeping bags and towels. Covered the bed with the sheet and slept in sleeping bags.
