I have two 73's and sometimes it's all I can do to take them off at the end of the day. I had one pop off shortly after I first got it but I know I didn't have it attached properly.

You'll lov'em. I think they are equal with Humminbird and Lowrance in quality and much, much easier to set up. I've got a Helix on the console and the Garmin picture and clarity is just as good.

I love how you're able to change the contour coloring, and costume set the depth to the color. To me these are the most user friendly depth finders out there.

Don't worry they will float. The first time out it flew off the bow mount and hit the driver's windshield, cracked it , flew over my head into Texoma. Cussing Garmin and myself I followed my trail and there it was. Dried it out and has never missed a beat.

Interested to see their new mapping. I have a unit on bow that I bought when the Panoptix first came out, and their proprietary mapping is pretty mediocre in my opinion on last years models (coming from a long time Navionics user).

I wouldn't argue that at all but $600 for a 9" unit with those features is impossible to beat. If I have both units set on 2D or down/side scan the Garmin is just as clear and precise as the Bird. And being able to add the Panoptik transducer is a big plus. I was told I would get interference from the Ultrex but that didn't happen. Happy with the Garmin.

Did you mean the helix mega 9 that is twice as much and not a touchscreen that doesn't support panoptix? Yes, you are correct about that.

Do any of you know if you can get a reading at high speed with the Garmin (transom transducer), or do you have to get a y cable and second transducer ( like with my Helix)?

Thanks

Has to be a through the hull transducer to get speed reading on your speedometer but the GPS should show your speed.

For depth at high speed, yes, you need a thru hull.
