So I was going to wait until summer to look around for a place to intern/ find a job somewhere along the lines of a boat dealership/ marina or other similar places. However, decided I would throw this out here to see what I could find

Im interested in becoming an intern and finding a place to be able to follow someone around and learn more about the industry. Im fascinated in learning more about the sales of (bass) boats and other servicing and maintenance parts as well.

Im 17 (18 in early July) and would be available most weekends and then more often during the summer.

Not asking for pay, just wanting to be able to learn more about the bass boat/tackle industry.

If you or any one you know would be interested in helping me out (even if its just for a day or two) I would be greatly interested, and it would be greatly appreciated. Just shoot me a pm and I can answer any further details/questions

Thanks!

Hi Dylan,
I can't help you as far as the boat world goes, Have you considered other industries? I am Director of Maintenance for an aircraft company and can maybe help you out in that world. Just a thought!

roflmao That's just wrong.
Look at the schedules of BASS, FLW, MLF. Even the opens and Costas have a service yard set up. Find a couple that are near you and go hang out in the service yard, especially during practice days, and watch those guys go to work. If a guy breaks down they're like a pit crew, you'll see Mercury guys pitching in to fix a trolling motor and Garmin guys helping replace a lower unit. And you'll hear more fishing talk and white lies than you can shake a stick at.

Hay Guys:
I have talked to Dylan several times today about his desires to go into Marketing, Finance and or Boat Sales when he finishes college. He is really set on this venue or route to success. We talked about going with my Marine Dealer down at Marshall. He would be staying about an hour from the dealership with family, which is just a little far.

He has two days for career planning that he can take off from school on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I am asking if someone can step up with Fun-N-Sun connections, to get him some time around the dealership for 3 days. This would be a big step in the right direction for him to be an observer for three days so he can see the procedures of selling and working with people. Thanks for any help that you may be able to give. He would like to get this taken care of before Christmas break as he and his family will be out of the area from Dec. 23 until Jan. 4. If not then sometime in Jan. would be fine with him.

This is one of the best examples of how we can grow the sport; by helping young people with the desire find a career in our sport.

Thanks for your help.

To anyone interested,

I will be out of state December 23rd - January 4th meaning I will be taking off of work for 2 weeks. Because of this I won't be allowed to take off work for another week before Christmas. However if your interested in giving your time for a day or 2 before Christmas I would have a better chance of getting off work and having someone cover my shifts.
If you would be interested in wanting me to spend 3+ straight days at a time I ask you please give me a couple weeks after I return on the 4th, due to already being off work and allowing me to get time excused from school.
If you're needing exact dates for me to be able to commit ahead of time February 13-16 would be a good time for me concerning school.
Again, if you would like for me to just follow around for a day; then just throw me a date and I can ask off work. After that date we can talk about me returning for more/longer amount of days if you would like.

Thanks to everyone involved in helping me out and allowing me a chance to learn more about the industry, especially Mr. Harper with his kind words and trust to give me an opportunity with his marine!

Dylan,

What is it that you want to get out of this "walking around, following someone"? If you are working now, what are you doing that you can take off to follow someone around? The sale of boats is just like the sale of anything else. Long hours, lots of rejection, lots of phone calls, lots of emails, and lots of cantankerous people. I am glad you see the boat/marine business as fascinating. After being rejected by two or three dozen customers in a row, I hope you can still keep up that terrific outlook.

If you have the means to start off as intern, you ought to do something that makes money at the same time. Car dealers are ALWAYS looking for "interns". ANY kind of sales does not start off easy. It takes time to build up a clientele. You don't have to stay. Learn how to let the bad times and rejection roll off your back like water and move on to what makes you the happiest.

Be safe,
Rayzor

1. Im a waiter/high school students so still making money and have the luxury of no bills, so wanting to start learning young.

2. Im hoping to learn the ins and outs of the "rejection""cantankerous people" and the process/ life of working in the industry. If I like the career I will strive and continue in doing it.

Ps: many car dealerships won't talk to you unless your at least 18
