I like the shallow water fishing. I think there are fish to be had shallow year round to be honest, but I try and let the water temp dictate where I start. The lake I've been on the last 2 weekends has been 56-57 degrees and I've been catching fish up to 20 in less that 2 fow. Once the temp gets in the 40's I'll start looking deep, then move shallower. That said, I see posts from guys, even yourself, catching good fish in the 20-40' range right now.

Yup I usually drift in mid depths to deep. Need to learn shallow water fishing. Ive tried a few times and skunked. Trying to figure out when, why (Sunny days or after rain or...) and where to go shallow.

I find the northern end of most lakes, or where the main creek/river empties in to the lake, normally has good shallow flats near by. Timber on those flats is a bonus. Also, I was once told to go shallow to the point where you see all the "V"'s on the surface of the water from the fish swimming away from you. 12-18 inches of water is not too shallow.

The lake I normally fish, is the upper end creek comes in huge flat to one side, if temp is above 50 I'm fishing the flat if colder I backout to the deeper channel that is adjacent to the flat, Flat is 7 to 15 ft , Channel is 20 to 29 ft. deep

I generally look shallow after weve had cold and overcast for several days or a week then you get that one warm sunny day. I believe they move up shallow following bait into the shallow and quickly warming shallow water. Sometime they are there and other times they are out in 40. I caught a 29 Blue with a Teal in its belly. Teal were along the bank is 2 of water. Go figure....

If it looks like it would hold bass with timber, submerged grass/bushes nearby and you see the shad flickering in there in the northern part...you are probably in the right spots.

Just like Lewisville Catfishing said. He knows shallow water.
I can tell you I was fishing Tawakoni right before Thanksgiving. It was the day that awful northern came in and fishing conditions were terrible. We pulled up in a cove to get out of the wind for a bit. I noticed big shad swimming away from the shore as we pulled up. While sitting there we saw on of the biggest catfish heads I have ever seen came up just to the side of the boat. We thought it was a big stick until it went back under. That was 3 to 4 fow. Trust me we fished that shallow water but no luck. All fish we caught were in 20 to 30 fow.
I like main lake channels and long underwater points in the winter time. Water depth can vary a lot. My biggest fish this winter came out of 62 fow. Follow your electronics.
