Rob and I set out Sunday around 10 and stopped at Saint Annes. Fished all around this area for a long time just moving around in 20-30 fow. Fish were biting but were scattered could only get about 4-5 in any one place but move 10ft and catch a couple more. Were we using small slabs with fly or thump buddy tied above. It is odd that they would go for one (fly or thump buddy) for a while then to the slab. Twice I had a hybrid eat the thump buddy and slice off my slab with it's gill plates. After losing two of my favorite slabs I just used a slab with nothing above and still caught plenty. The fish are hugging the bottom very close, get your lure on the bottom and move a little, don't need a lot movement. It is time to downsize your baits, we did better with smaller baits. Birds didn't really help much they were moving fast.
Later in the day we ran into Dennis Christian over by crappie island. He invited us over to his spot, said he was on a nice school of fish. We didn't have to move very close before the screen lit up and it was on. Big school of sandies with a couple of hybrids mixed in. Thanks Dennis for making our good day end up great, hope to see you out there again. Ended the day with over 100 on the clicker all returned to the lake, sorry no pics this time.
Has anyone else noticed that when you graph an area loaded with shad, mark fish, stop and start thumping that the shad disappear?

Steve Ive normally seen shad school up under the boat in a huge school while thumping. Seldom have I seen them scatter while thumping. I think its a safety in numbers thing with them. If a large school of fish starts chasing them they definitely scatter but will group up again if I continue to thump.

Good to see you guys out here on Cedar Creek. The spot where I was was Saint Annes Point West. When I first came out y'all were at Saint Annes Point East. I found a few more later at Flagpole Point. Caught my fish lifting Mepps #4 up and down staying close to the bottom in 17 to 24 fow.

Hey Dennis, when you lift that mepps up and down what size do you normally use? 2 or 4? And is it a slow lift or do you snap it first to get the blades moving then slow the lift?

Thanks jbobo, for your response. Hopefully the thumping attracts enough fish to scatter the shad and eat my lure.
Thanks Dennis for clarifying where you were. I have your map but me and maps don't get along. Several times I have directed Robert to the wrong place.

#4. One of the great things about the plain Aglia is that it takes little movement to get the blades spinning. So, I can lift it slowly, jerk start it and keep it moving or lift it or crank it up faster. When I'm over fish in the winter, I let bait sink to bottom, jig it a couple of times then raise bait just fast enough to make it spin. Let back to bottom and repeat. Sometimes it works better to swim the Mepps sideways from the bottom using my rod. I try all these and pay attention to what gets the most strikes.
