Kids and I visited the Red River this weekend. Hard to believe I saw plenty of good sized shad in the river and a few sall catfish caught. Didn't see a single striper caught Saturday or Sunday. They could have possibly been caught, I just didn't see anyone catching.

Caught a 4-5 pounder on a chartreuse 4sassy on my second cast just about 20 yds down river from first set of stairs closest to the dam. Then nothing for 2 hrs!? Lots of small cats caught right at dam. Lots of dead gizzards floating around.

Went out 2 nights ago, nada. Didnt even see a strip get pulled. Lots of baby cats at the bottom of stairs. Saw a 20lb drum pulled in on a white fluke, 1st stair case

Fishing below the dam is pretty dead right now. Doyle, the old guy that sits there every day with his two little dogs and his fire right next to him, told me on Monday that no one has been catching anything. If you ever want info on the fishing there he is the guy to talk to.

What's the scoop on the fishing? Drove by Saturday night and saw they were still releasing a lot of water. Just not understanding why the fish are not up there. Anyone have a clue? Lots of bait coming from the release.

Bait coming through the release doesn't translate into larger fish coming through. The larger fish that were in the river have mostly been caught or have gone far downriver. The river has dramatically changed from three years ago, that's why you don't see guide boats there anymore.

I've been fishing Denison dam since 1994 and best time is always during and after floodgates opens. Including the recent flood.
