Well- we decided on Fayette because I found out that Gibbons Creek is only open Fri-Sun. We went straight to the warm discharge and fished around the shallow area buoy because it was the only spot I really know that was fishable in our little jon boat given the wind. Picked up about a 2.5 pounder on a spinner bait really quickly and thought we were going to have a good day but instead it pretty much just went downhill from there. My brother got a 3.5 pounder on a worm around late-morning and that was it for us.

While at the discharge we did see a couple guys catching fish on a brushpile but it was just too difficult with the wind for us to stay on a spot, even with the anchor down sometimes if the bottom was just sand. Pretty humbling watching others catch fish in a nice Skeeter while we struggled in a jon boat! Also watched a couple guys cast net for tilapia- unbelievable how many they brought in the boat in a couple hours.

I still love Fayette but think I'll wait until I am better equipped before going back.

next time on Fayette, fish out of the Oak Creek park. That whole cove is really protected from the wind and always holds good fish. Try crankbaits in shad or chartreuse and/or Carolina rigged watermelon lizzard

Is Fayette still murky all the time? I haven't been in a couple of years but from what I heard a lot of the grass is gone. If so that would contribute to the dirty water.

Never known the water at Fayette to be murky. Maybe under certain conditions.
