Yesterday was a great day to go fast on the water, water temp was 58.6F, air temp was high 40's to low 50's and just enough ripple on the water to break up the surface tension.

Had my Kitty almost to 80 and I did not endanger anyone, I do not even think I endangered myself (that's a first) laugh

For the question the boat was loaded with my fishing setup, not that I carry a lot. But 2 guys, trolling motor, all batteries, rods, tackle, but empty wells and half tank of gas.
After more looking this morning and consulting some of my expert buddies, looks like my assumptions are correct. DO NO CHOP YOUR SKEGS PEOPLE! I tried this case as it was sold to me this way, but it looks like it doesnt help you go much faster if at all but it looses a lot of bite in the water. Lesson learned. It also didnt help that I had over trimmed the boat at the last second, looking for that 1 more mph. With not enough skeg in the water and the boat over trimmed.... boom.

If I was around I'd take you up on that ride. Hell I'd sign whatever you want and ride for 3 digits. I've always wanted to do it but my buddy sold his stroker before I could notch that one off the list.

100 mph in a boat is bonkers to me, but I wouldn't say no to experiencing it once, I repeat, once...

The game warden comment is my favorite.

My Cougar pushes 80mph and that's fast enough for me, but for those that want to go faster and are considerent to the safety of others. Go for it.

I had my boat in the shop a while back and the mechanic took it to the lake to test drive it before he gave it back to me. He told me he hit 61 mph, I told him not with me in it you want. I hit 40 (gps) a few time and it scared me to death.
Here is what is scary to me. I was on the Calcasieu when the bassmasters where at Orange, Tx. The first time. I had pulled up in a little cove to wait for them early that morning, I like to watch them and learn. I heard them coming way before I saw them, they were lined up, running wide open on that river, and when they went around bends in the river, they never slowed up. I was glad I was not coming around one of those bends in the other direction because there would have been nowhere to go, and with them lined up like they were, there is no way they could have all stopped in time. (Remember Iaconelli in the trees?)
I also watched Brent Erhler and Terry Scroggins time their runs from the top of the river to the salt water barrier, and that was scary. I know they are professionals and know what they are doing, but on a river as small as the Calcasieu and as busy as it is, well, it just scared me.
I did enjoy watching them fish though, I just gave them a wide berth when they were running.

I get why people go fast.... cheers

Two willing participants. Asked nearest on the water vessel if they minded them doing passes. Had Top Quality safety equipment on & kill switch attached. A lesson was learned (skeg design). Sounds reasonable for "seeing what she'll do". What's the problem?
I know Trace personally. He's young, quick reaction time, healthy, & IF I were wanting to go that fast, HE is the man I'd want behind the wheel. Period!!!!
Ive had worse bruises, cuts & scrapes while clearing fence rows & building fences, than what they received. Thank the Lord. I do.
The ones that scare me are the ones that don't think ahead & use top safety equipment. Ive seen waaaay more of those than I wanted to. Now add jet skis, wakeboats, alcohol to the mix. It gets downright scary. Yes, as a fisherman, I like peaceful areas to fish, but, if I want that, I go to those places.

Yes the government should def regulate all things including boat speed maybe even stop manufacturing anything over over say what 100 hp. Save us from ourselves.

Glad you were ok.
