I fished Fayette Sunday from 10am to 12:30. Not a bite. North wind was blowing pretty good. I tried shallow, deep, grass, and timber. I tried using my graph to location bait, and really never found any. I threw crankbaits, traps, soft plastics and spinner baits. I am always learning when I go fishing, so I am asking for some help. If any of you where out there, how did you catch them? Or if you werent out there what would you target this time of year. How would you approach the lake? Thanks for the help.

I fished Fayette this past Friday till around 11:30am. We caught almost all of our 15 fish within the first 2 hours of the day on traps and jerk baits. Once the sun got high that bite died and we struggled so we called it a day. It was the typical bluebird day after a front with no wind.

Fished the previous Saturday with same luck. Spent most of the day trolling traps and crank baits to set up electronics. Not one bite which is definitely not typical this time of year. Caught one in timber on chrome rattletrap. The only place I saw bait or arches was at the intake. Sat on a group of arches for an hour with no bites (and threw 8 different rigs). Guess it was catfish. I'll be going elsewhere in the future, lake has been tough this year.

Makes you wonder, I've always read here that lake has always been really good, but its really small, has the fishing pressure finally taken its toll, or is it just in a Fall funk? I can only imagine the pressure it gets when people continuously post about 50-100 fish days...... At some point, a fish has got to get tired of having a 5/0 ripped through his lip right??

Tis the season, IMO Its been tough lately, but so far in 2018 the fish Ive caught have been healthier than Ive ever seen on that lake.

Am I the only one that wonders about the all summer long of droves of cast netters? And they do it in large groups. I don't think they are just catching rough fish.

Not any better there ,,,,, Athens is dead, Fork is not biting ,,,, Naconichie bass have lock jaw. it is the same everywhere ,,,,, they got to turn on soon.

Only reason I'd go elsewhere is to fish for whites and crappie. Boat is set up to fish those species and Fayette is lacking in that department. If I want to fish for bass I'd rather save up for a trip to Rayburn.

Even if they are legal they are destroying the shallow habitat, bait, and bite. What would you do if you got clunked in the head with some lead weights almost everyday at your dining table? They might as well just make seining legal with the abuse of cast netters on this small lake.

I have reached out to everyone I thought would be the right person to speak to about these guys throwing cast nets. And yes I expressed my concerns on the fishery, but like I have heard from each one I have spoke to I get the same answer, they are doing this legal so no crime to be done. The sad part is this, it is being done by commercial fisherman. These fish are being sold at the flea market in San Antonio from what I have been told. If only the buyers could see how long these fish are in the heat dead before they are processed then they probably would not buy them. This has been going on now for more than five years, I'm guessing somewhere around seven years now. They pull the grass up by the roots. so yes, the grass in the shallows are gone. Their dinner table has gotten very small, plus now they have to burn up more energy to feed, therefore they never get good and fat. These guys with cast net are also destroying the bait fish because they do not throw or cull these bait fish until later when they are dead.
