Small airports that have a fuel co-op. I hear that AvGas is Ethenol free, small planes taxi up to the pump and swipe their CC, you can usually drive your truck to them and fill up your cans.

Very bad advice. Avgas such as LL100 has lead in it. Your modern 4 stroke will not like it at all, especially the O2 sensor.

This,^^^^^ not to mention earlier this week 100LL was $3.89/gal at KXBP, and they are normally the cheapest on av fuels at any airport we land. The airports in the bigger towns will be $1.60-$4.00 higher than that on average.

I have a SHO on my boat that is going on 5 years old at this point. I have used Stabil 360 and ring free since break in. I buy gas where and when I need it, always 89 octane. No issues this far.

Thanks for clearing that up. I just figured out the no Ethenol thing. Never considered lead.

My motor is 17yrs old. Never put one ounce of any kind of fuel additive in it. Not one problem out of it.

Word of advice, if you run nothing but ethanol free for a few years and switch to regular pump gas with ethanol you will have problems. This goes back to before ethanol was common place and where all the myths started. Non ethanol will leave a varnish in the tank over time. When ethanol is introduced with will wash it off and that's when the problem starts.
Modern outboards are designed to run with ethanol and it wont hurt it at all. Only solid advice is to use marine stabil if your going to let the boat sit for more then a month or two at a time.

Had the exact same thing happen that tmd11111 describes in a Honda Accord. Varnish built up on tank. I thought it would be smart to use a higher grade of octane once in a while to clean fuel system. The higher grade had ethanol in it. The particles came off the tank and would clog the filter. This happen in the late 1980's.

Why would you think a higher octane would clean stuff?

25 and 30 years ago that is exactly how they were advertised right on the face of the gas pump. Magic in your tank. If it sounds to good to be true it is; but, I fell for it anyway. That is how I got smarter, the school of hard knocks.

Has nothing to do with Octane. Its the ethanol that cleans out the varnish left behind from years of running ethanol free fuel. E10 has been common place for close to 20 years now. All modern outboards are designed to run on it and it wont hurt your motor. Like I said earlier if you're not using it often the keep marine stabil in it and you wont have any problems. Some people just won't let old myths die.
