Has anyone here used a K&N air filter and switched to a SPECTRE Air Filter in their vehicle? I presently use a K&N and wanting to try the SPECTRE to see if there is any improvement in engine performance. These two filters look alike but made with different filtration materials. The SPECTRE runs about $32 and the K&N about $61.

I honestly don't know that I would waste my money on either. I don't believe there is any real data to back up the claims for increased performance.

They do allow more air into the engine which does help in a couple of ways. The filtration system on these are better than the paper filters. I decided to get the re-charge kit for a K&N and leave it at that.

The only way to make a kn filter as good as paper is to completely oil the heck out of and then it costs you hp.

Wix Gold is what I run on my oem type vehicles.

22 seasons of oval track racing 14 of which I ran kn filters then I went to a chassis dyno and started comparing filters... after switching from kn my cylinder walls looked new at re freshen time vs looking like sand was thrown in there (dirt track racing).

In a different post I mentioned the CAI system that K&N puts out for $332. I asked a JEGS Tech just how much HP increase the system would have on my engine. He said 7 to 8 HP. !! You can just imagine what the $62.00 filter alone would do!! Maybe 1HP !! The filter material in the K&N is Cotton Gauze....the Spectre is some synthetic stuff.

....not arguing here but where are the dyno results for each individual vehicle they can be put on...

Paper filters do the best job of filtering particles out of the air.

Don't taze me but I've seen all sorts of different intakes on diesels and unless you pumping up at least a little serious boost none of them does much.
A 400 hp diesel will benefit maybe 5 hp. A 300 diesel Cummins may show no difference between a stock filter and no filter.

Modern engines have a huge air intake system to offset the choking done in the exhaust. You want a diesel to breathe, bypass the DPF and it’ll scream.
