We only know of two checks that bounced. $7616 if all were returned on those two events. He could have payed some out in cash at the ramp. What? No. What probly happened is some one chased theirs right away and some waited a few days or a week and no money was left

How is one supposed to pay something back if they spent the money in vegas? Sounds like media spent the money before these checks could clear. Someone needs to learn how to balance a check book.

The law doesn't care about ,oops I will pay you later. Any check bounced over 500 buck is equal to theft of the same amount and rightfully so.It's a class c misdemeanor in Texas unless you can prove they had the intention to steal what they intended to pay for. Then its theft by check.
When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

Any time you get the ol "Can't comment due to pending litigation" line.....you know things are bad. As others have said, get the local DA involved. Unfortunately theft doesn't get taken seriously in our criminal justice system these days, but hot checks are the exception. Local DA's have an amazing track record of getting money back on these. The thing that worries me here is it doesn't sound like there is any money left. If that is the case I hope someone goes to jail.
The other thing I wonder is if a game warden could help you any here? They prosecuted a few cases where people were cheating in tournaments by photo shopping pics to make the fish look larger. It may be a long shot but I would at least talk to my local game warden to see if they have any input.

Tx Tree I agree with " Can't comment due to pending litigation" is bad. Just pay the people and then Media has deal wih the aftermath and their will be some aftermath. I do know if media can come back from this with their attitude.

Media should start carrying payment bond insurance (surety bond) if they can.
this would cover subcontractors nefarious deeds.

Media Bass has gotten worse and worse. Their payouts suck and now they are robbing people haha Clark3 this is a very bad generalization. It may be your opinion but for many of us that fish Media it isn't true. Just because of one thief you can't slam the entire organization that is you are pressing another agenda

Years ago , a gal wrote me a hot check , on a closed account in Kansas , Police department told me that a hot check wrote on a closed account , was punished way worse than a hot check on a active account . Not sure if that's the case in Tx . Seems like more than bad math , when you close the account ! I hope all you guys that got a hot check , get your money asap . Since Gordon knew about this since June , and didn't get guys paid right then , sure looks like he wanted too kill Media . imo I would be shocked if Media can draw 20 boats a derby next year , if your paycheck bounced Friday , you sure wouldn't go too work on Monday !

Once upon a time, I paid a good deal of money for my son to be a part of a newly founded travel baseball organization. At some point one of he co-owners mismanaged the money and split town. The remaining owner took a 401k loan out to make things right so everyone could continue. When we asked why he would be willing to do this and no one expected it.. he simply said that his reputation was on the line and it was the right thing to do.
independent contractor, no independent contractor, or whatever. Someone profits from the company name. Whoever has that money should make these people whole. Thats how it should would.

Bart Doty post on Facebook has comments from Gordon. He doubles done on his statement and defends it. Also calls out others who say he should pay up and go after his own TD. I have heard stories of others receiving bad checks from Gary.

I think the da is gonna have a hard time with this. I think it becomes a civil matter. Im not exactly sure but I know if you write a check in Arkansas that fulfills a contract it becomes a civil not criminal. Say I build you a house and at the end you owe me 70k and move in your house, after you gave me the check 1 week later check is bounced I can not goto da. I have to hire attorney to sue him. Ask me how I know this. Second that check looks like its wrotr off a credit card account so say the originator is out of Maryland what state handles it? Heres another exampl. My ex has a bf who lives in kc and wrote checks to mail order medication out of Texas. They shipped product ch do bounced. Texas has never asked kc to prosecute him. I have no clue why. My guess is logistics vs money and time spent on it.
Whats happened to op is a bad deal. I feel for him.

Whats happened to op is a bad deal. I feel for him. The guy that wrote the check could spend some time in jail. Gordon can get sued because he owns the rights to media. ( from what I see). If Gordon would pay off the anglers then he could sue Gary for the money on the bad checks. I know Gordon can't talk about the case but TAKE CARE OF THE ANGLERS. You don't have to talk about the case just send checks out. You have their info.

May be statutes on books concerning contest fraud. I know other states have similar laws. Depending on wording in statute, it may fit. Regardless, its issuing worthless checks at the least. May not hurt to contact TPW.
