I really don�t want to drill holes everywhere in my new boat. Is there a rod holder system that uses seat pedestals or something?

There are some out there, but the ones I have seen are not very solid since they are basically a seat post with an accessory. Bee ready has one that u-bolts onto a seat post. I wanted one in the front of my boat that would be removable, so I built one in our machine shop that is solid. Basically it is a rod that goes into the seat post hole and I made the bottom of it expandable so you can twist it and it gets tight. The top is just a cross bar on it with rod holders mounted to it. It will turn to the desired direction and tighten down with set screws. I rarely use it, and always end up using the rod holders mounted on the gunnels.

Kyle, best way to get what you are looking for is to build it yourself. Given some thought, I'm sure it can be done. I didn't want to drill mine either when I got it, but after piddling around with some I made and almost losing a rod or two out of them, I decided to drill holes. Ended up with Bee Ready's. It's hurts drilling those first few holes, but it's probably the best most secure option.

If your boat has a track along the gunnel/gunwhale; this has worked well for me

I�ve never seen any clamp on rod holders that were of any real quality.

I�ve thought about this for my buddies new to him bass boat. Line the front deck�s wall with some wood. Then connect the two pieces with a piece of wood or two that spans across the deck over any seat holes in the floor. Use a whole saw blade to drill a hole so you can put seats through it to secure it or find a big bolt to drop down to help secure the wood. Could then mount rod holders to the wood without drilling holes in your boat plus take it on and off easily. Just an idea....

If it were me I probably would just buy a bee ready rod holder base so you only have to drill a few holes in the deck and not caprail system. You can then hold several rods from that one base. This is what Barry Stokes of Fox sports outdoors dose on his bass boat.

One thing I did is I made my seaark's caprail system into a "T track" that comes on most of their boats. I purchased an aluminum "T track" from amazon for cheap. It holds 1/4 inch bolts. I would cut the T track into 4 inch pieces. Place it into the slot of my caprail system. Slide two 1/4 inch bolt heads into it. Then I could secure my rod holders onto the caprail system without drilling holes. This has been very beneficial because after a year I ended up moving a few of them around to be more useful and convenient.

The channel rails used for electric wiring slips right over my boat cleat. I was able to get a welder to make me a T-bar with claps to use as rod holders..The only holes I drilled was the 2 on the cleats themselves to hold down the channel rail.

You can use this idea to make something out of aluminum if you want no holes. Problem is this type mount is not stable since the end of the flat piece where the holder is attached is not stabilized. Probably why Hi-Tek quit selling it.

That's a good idea. I didn't think about the inside groove being a T-track. On my Seaark 1872 I used the Driftmaster bases like those you used, but I placed them on top of the gunwale and through-bolted using #10 machine screws and nyloks. The nyloks are under the caprail on the outside and if you aren't looking for them you don't even know they are there. The only thing I still want to do is to continue the tapped threads through the extrusion with the bases in place to give me another 3/8" of material for the rod holders to screw into. I've got them spaced out with 5 bases on each side of the boat.

To the OP... Which ever system you go with, use something that can be trough-bolted with stainless hardware. Don't depend on screws to hold your bases on.

Couple of ideas. I have seen a few options but can't remember who made them other than the one by driftmaster shown in the link. Can always look over the driftmaster design and go to a local welding shop and have them build anything you can dream up. The driftmaster setup is called the T-250, just have to scroll down the page until you see it.
