It sounds to me like you aren't that far off what everyone else is telling you. What were you expecting? One thing you have to understand is the 2018 Pro XS 250 is dumbed down from the older models. Put a 2014 engine on it and see what it does. Mercury two strokes are a thing of the past. Speed is irrelevant to me. I would expect to be able to spin the prop 5750-5900 rpm at WOT this time of year. 5300 RPM @ WOT was telling me either I had to much load on the motor or I wasn't making the normal HP. Having too much load on the motor cannot be good long term.

It sounds like you've got it pretty dialed in now. If you're seeing those numbers this time of year, you're doing real well. Unfortunately our 2 stroke 250's just will not have the hole shot that a 4 stroke has. But we typically can run them down on the top-end. Just a trade off. By the way, I bought a 26 4 blade Trophy that had been worked by Mark Croxton, and it is awesome. The hole-shot is much better and it runs 72 all day long. Turns 5850 on top. I don't run it all the time because it will not load the boat. For some reason it does not allow the motor to step up enough to push onto the trailer.
