I hosted four combat Marines who served in Afghanistan this Memorial day. One with a purple heart. All with tats. Tell them that. BS All of them perfect gentleman with Kids and making their way in this world.

A cops appearance should not scare people. Today between the tactical black outfits, gang looking tats on whole arm and neck and the attitude many cops have people are wary of cops. While I agree that 99% of them are great people doing their jobs, their overall appearance and attitude is their worst enemy.
Police departments don�t help their image any either. They allow the tactical looks and drive blacked out cars with black lettering.
That is one reason DPS has stayed with traditional uniforms and standardatrol vehicles. They want the people that their officers stop to trust them on first appearance.

People can express their lifestyle
But as a public servant, you have to set standards. I was in the military for 20 years and a public servant for 20. No beards, and keep my tats above the elbows. I don't trust cops that look like they're out a Deliverance
