The other boat is either a potion or party boat, the sides have bright neon blue lights. However it has no navigation lights and the operator does not know boating regulations, as he too failed to yield when I approached from the right.
Be careful out there.
We were fishing a boat dock at about 2:45 a.m. when the blue pontoon boat came flying in toward us. We finally figured out that he was going into one of the stalls. He barely slowed down and hit the dock hard enough that the impact threw everyone in the boat forward. One girl in a bikini looked like she almost went over the bow. We were in utter disbelief. They all got out of the boat and went up the hill as if nothing happened. Ron White's "Drunk In Public" comes to mind. That boat was buzzing around us as well but they stayed clear when we were running. The light situation was stupid, all those blue LEDS but no bow or stern light.

The only lights you are allowed to display at night are your white anchor light and red\green nav light.

Lots of places around the country have put in places ordinances to outlaw these boats. The primary reason is because of the shoreline damage they call. It'll take time, but I believe they will eventually be banned most places. The louder the chatter gets the sooner it'll happen.

They will have to revisit that rule at some point. Its NOT OK for your boat wake to kill someone. It might not be illegal yet, but it will be as soon as the right person is killed. They might not be charged, but a civil case could be filed and I'd bet they'd have a good case.

Way to turn this into a politically charged issue... Some people are stupid, we have lots of laws to protect us from that stupid. I hate additional laws as much as the next guy. Until we fix the stupid though, here we are.

There is NO law that is enforced that keeps the idiots that are driving the wakeboats from killing people. There are also many laws about damaging someones personal property but none concerning the damage wakeboats cause to boatdocks and shoreline erosion. You are right making a law against owning an inanimate object is ridiculous but laws against the effects of using them are needed. Whether it is guns or boats or cars.

There are much larger boats on most lakes I fish than wakeboard boats. Rollers from the wakeboard boats are really the least of my safety concerns when I'm out on the water, nor are they as destructive to shorelines and docks as waves caused by natural phenomena
You could have an argument for expansion of no wake zones and certainly there should be an increase in enforcement of existing laws, but I'm not buying into legislatively banning people from doing something that is far more annoying than dangerous.

You are wrong about the boat dock damage. Wake boats that come by a floating dock to close have wakes that are very close together that pound a dock relentlessly. They are also bigger than almost any waves made by wind on all but the largest of lakes. If a wake boat or even a worse a surf boat is 50 foot from a dock it wreaks havoc on the dock if that same boat is 500 foot away the waves have time time to settle some and spread apart from one another. Also on most lakes they are the largest boats out there. The no wake zone or NO wakeboat zones are going to have to be enacted at many lakes. Also a larger zone for keeping away from other boats is going to have to be enacted. I see very few wakeboats that don't go out of their way to get close to other boats and close to shorelines with docks.

I like to drive my boat, which by the way was designed to create the biggest wave humanly possible, around the shoreline. Sure there is a mile of open water right down the middle of the lake where hardly anyone is trying to fish, but what fun would that be? It's much more exciting to get on the 15 foot contour line and circle the lake like a stock car hugging the outside wall. Besides, it is pretty much impossible to ski, jump wakes...or surf...out in the middle. There's too much water.

You must be on Lewisville as well You must launch out of Stewart's Peninsula as well and see the blatant disregard for the no wake zones over there on a daily basis too.
