Is it worth the price or is it hype?

Aren't all cattle kept in pastures most of their lives?

Pastures are fields of grass, therefor, all beef is grass fed.

I think some of the big cattle operations may fatten them up with corn and soy feeds instead of leaving them in a pasture to graze.

Beef that is finished off Roth corn for 60 days adds marbling and flavor. Grass fed usually has less fat therefore less flavor and is preferred by the people who want everything in its natural state without human intervention. I definitely prefer beef finished off on grain.

Often cattle are over crowded on pastures and need to be fed grains and hay for the pasture to support them.

Also cattle are fed grains for faster growth and weight gain. Meaning more and faster money.

Gpa, 99% of the cornfields you see that's not corn for people. That's corn for cattle and for Hogs. Grass-fed beef cost 2 to 3 times as much as regular beef.

Cattle are not turned lose in fidlds of standing corn to feed.
Corn is processed and fed in feed lots.
Cattle do not spend all their lives in a bare ground feedlot.
They at some time or another graze in pasture.......
Or do they?

Cattle arent raised like chickens, are they?
Im showing my ognorance. Enlighten me.

I have tried both side by side....same cuts of beef....cooked on same grill same way. Grain finished beef is way better in my book.

Its supposed to be healthier for the person eating it, healthier for the cow and also better for the environment (less planting of corn). I dont know if I believe all of that, but I dont really notice a difference anymore. My wife buys it. There are still good steaks with good marbling and taste that are grass fed. Theyre more expensive, usually.

Yearlings weighing 650 to 800 pounds are moved to the feedlots and put in pens of 100 to 125 head and fed a ration of corn and protein. They will gain 2.5 to 3.0 pounds per day and are fed to a weight of 1100 or so pounds, then slaughtered for meat. If they were high quality cattle they will come out as choice and maybe prime. They are way more tasty than grass fed beef which will have yellow fat and have some of the grass flavor.
