Set the hook on this bait just like you would with any other treble hook bait. Lean into them and reel fast thumb

For me, braid, with the appropriate rod and drag setting, has clearly the best choice but I do use a heavy mono leader because it significantly cuts down on hooks fouling.

agree - i think some lose fish because they try to drop/reel/set like a horny toad. this is no different than a crankbait other than you see/hear the fish hit the bait before you feel it.

I have thrown it on flouro and mono. Too much stretch when you hook one 50 yards away. Got to use braid and I agree with others, dont set the hook, just lean back and reel in steady with the line tight. I dont know what the stock hooks are but they are strong and sharp so I dont think thats your issue.

Flouro is bad news, sinks topwaters bad... use braid or mono and a little softer rod.

That said best tip i have on plopper is SLOW DOWN

This! My fishing buddies ask me why I catch more fish on it than they do and it's because I use a nice steady roll back to the boat. They seem to burn it fast enough that it leaves a rooster tail behind their WPs!

I use the 130 size, and have caught a lot of nice bass on the WP. I use 17# mono, a fast MH rod, and try to feel the fish before setting the hook. Sometimes I'll stop my retrieve and let the lure stay motionless for anywhere between 1 and 10 seconds, but usually I just keep it coming with a slow and steady retrieve. I can only remember losing one fish on a WP.
