The Mag fluke is a staple on Falcon.. Wide gap hook is a must. Gives the bait somewhere to go when you set the hook.. I have used the Gama wide gap 5/0 thin wire hook with great results.. Rarely miss one.. It is also a very effective flipping bait.. At least it is down here..

I do this at Fork for suspended fish (count down the fluke, then twitch and pause, twitch and pause) and also deep fishing in timber on points that same time of year.

All I throw are mag flukes

Great right now during the bluegill spawn

Will catch the occasional 2lber; definitely fewer bites, but bigger fish. The mag flukes can ball up, but using a 6/0 hook (ewg/superline/big tube hook) and resetting the hook again if something doesnt feel right

I move the mag flukes a lot less with the rod tip. Almost a dead stick with baby twitches and half reels of the handle.

What action / length rod you guys use with the mag flukes? Line size? Do you reel into them and sweep or cross their eyes? Thanks!

I put in a nose weight, not much just enough to get it to fall slightly nosedown slowly, I whacky rig the bait, count down to about ten feet, and let it fall, twitch-twitch, repeat...let it go all the way to bottom, twitch-twitch,..
repeat all over...

Dobyns Champion 734 (7'3" "heavy" though seems more like a MH to me) with 17lb McCoys Mean Green for me. Any good MH-H rod you like w/17-20lb mono or fluro(whatever your taste) will work fine. Many people fish a mag fluke on a big 1/4-1oz heavy shakey head with a 5/0-7/0 hook. Try flipping that around Falcon! wink

I can see this working really well.

NOT ALL FLUKES IN ANY SIZE ARE THE SAME. YOU MUST OPEN THE PACKAGE AND FEEL THE BAIT. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE. I HAVE GONE THROUGH A WHOLE ROW OF BAITS IN PACKAGES, LIKE 20, AND ONLY FIND 4 BAGS. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. THE BAIT MUST BE SOFT AND PLIABLE. THAT IS WHY YOUR BAIT BALLS UP AND THE HOOK DOES NOT PENETRATE.

yes all caps were necessary to get everyone's attention. When you start testing the baits by squeezing them out of the package you will see the difference. This difference is what increases you hookups, you will go through more baits, but I visit multiple stores to find the right ones.

I know what you mean about different baits feeling different especially with the thicker mag flukes but I have to ask: you "OPEN" like 20 packages only to find 4 you like? Do you have to sneak out of the store? laugh
