the 100 or less people that pay property taxes on lakefront property don't care what 30000 think.

Especially if they are influential. Look at Lake Austin.

I love how the majority of people on here blame us mean ole lake house owners. The reality is that if you owned a house on the water and the grass was so thick next to your house that no one could get in the water to enjoy it or you couldn't get your boat in and out, then you would also ask for some help.

The problem was the state, therefore all of the water districts and/or authorities, used the wrong method to control the grass without eradicating it. They didn't have near enough research to tell them what the 1,000's grass carp would do until it was too late. It's why you don't see any new big additions of grass carp to any of our lakes any more because they've figured out they can and will completely eradicate any and all grass which is not good for a lake. I've talked talked at length with the people in charge of these decisions for our lake and everyone appears to be in agreement that if/when the hydrilla comes back (TPWD Biologist is convinced it will), then they will do chemical spot treatments which work. This puts the responsibility on the home owner which is where it should be. Owners that like grass do nothing...those that don't want it simply throw out some copper sulfate from time to time and all is right in the world.

Rant over.

Sounds like a reasonable compromise. Probably get pretty busy around the grass docks.

Falling water. Especially when it leaves grass up on the bank.

Water fluctuation is probably the biggest factor, besides someone spraying it.

Why hasn't tpw used one of those barges that basically mows the grass underwater. Seems like a great compromise. The grass gets cleaned up but the roots stay intact to help the lake. I know Florida uses them alot

I fault the DNR for not taking a firmer stance against grass carp and spraying...they hide behind this "hydrilla is an invasive species of grass" and truth be known, half the plants in this country are invasive which is just another name for imported....the reality is that hydrilla is a godsend for aging reservoirs which have the wood cover all rotted away....Guntersville and Chickamauga are prime examples of what happens when you spray the grass...they ruined the fishing back in late 80's by spraying the grass and turned really great fishing areas into barren mud flats....same with numerous other lakes....it took years for the grass to return and revitalize the fishing....

It's coming back on Bob Sandlin. Not as much as before but it is on the way back.

No, the Monti gates have only recently been opened. The grass on BS has been coming back for some time now. Lots of grass on BS right now in some areas.

More like 25 years ago CedarCreek was actually covered with hydrilla. During the summer months most of the shallow bays were so choked off by hydrilla that the docks were completely unusable by the property owners. The water was actually quite clear and bass fishing was great but the voices of the property owners was louder than the fishermen and the grass disappeared....completely! Its the all or nothing mentality of the state that has been a big problem IMHO.
