Can someone please tell me how "hand-pouring" could possibly make a difference?

Been away from this plastic stuff for a while........ Back in the day the guys who hand poured their plastics were able to create custom colors, sizes, profiles, shapes, buoyancies, and actions. But, as I understood it, the primary advantage was a softer, more lifelike-feeling bait. That's what I was told, anyway. Most of mine came from the worm bar at Academy......

The main reason I pour is to get the specific color I have confidence in. Plus it's cool to catch fish on baits I poured.

Customization is the reason. Texture, fall rate, color and scent are built to order.

Most mass produced plastics are more rigid than necessary--most customers want uniformity and durability instead of a plastic lure that has slightly better action/might catch more fish, but becomes mangled after a fish or two.
Very soft plastics also don't hold up as well in packaging/shipping and don't look as perfect on the shelves.
Hand pouring is time consuming and expensive. Profit margins are more attractive when machines that never sleep can produce an identical, uniform looking product that looks great in packaging.
With hand pouring, you can create a unique, very buoyant and life like lure in color patterns tailored for the water conditions and forage/prey that you fish.

I pay extra to have access to hand pours and it's worth every dime in confidence and results. Problem you're going to have is finding a pour person that knows what they're doing because there are so few skilled now if they're any good they're backed up.

Can someone please tell me how "hand-pouring" could possibly make a difference? Those who find out the different pluses and minuses of different designs, never has to worry : 1. if they're in stock or discontinued 2. about selling one's own unique designs vs getting sued like some did selling Sweet Beaver copies 3. about running out of a color 4. about preferred softness and salt/silica content 5. about your own unique designs hidden from the public, including modifications of the original 6. about reusing plastic that was heated for other lure designs 7. about having to share new design ideas you came up with (infinite number the longer one makes their own) 8. about the range of sizes one has on hand of specific designs 9. finding new uses for certain designs 10.about having enough in stock after giving some to friends or fishing partners

I forgot to add: you don't have to pour soft plastics to get unique lures that may do better than most off the shelf. Modify them with the parts of two different lures and fuse them together with a candle flame. I given quite a few examples in other posts, photos included. I saves you the expense of starting from scratch and allows immediate testing where you fish. Soft plastic lure craft isn't just about molds and hot plastic.

Excellent quality! The proof is in the catching! I like the idea of the silver foil embedded inside the plastic. Going to make some swimbaits now! Also, I will hang a small willow leaf blade with swivel under the lure from the hook. Should add more flash to excite bass. Thanks for posting! A good rule of angling philosphy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated. So true!

I know the bait in the fish picture it's SwampFox or as I know it HSM-74, I've been using it for 2 yrs. I owe you I've caught some good fish on it thanks. When they make them I always grab some of the Bluegills. The Mississippi Silver Sides you and I are the only ones that have that bait.
