I went from 20-60 dollar reels to a carbonlite and thought it was the best ever..

Then I bought some shimano stradic c4 they are 3 times the price and worth it, several ounces lighter, just so much smoother my mind is blown. The bail just closes smoother reels smoother, lays line better etc. the drag is insanely smoother and infinitely adjustable.

Yes sir, I heartily agree...that is exactly why I fish them...

Don't buy any spinning reel made in China.. [censored] materials regardless of the price. I got burned on some Abu Garcia Cardinals.. I bumped up to Shimano Symetre reels.. they were the $79 class reel I bought on Ebay for about $40. They have served me well.. but I bought 1500 series reels.. which are a little small for Texas. I have replaced those with Pflueger Presidents.. 1 is a 2500 and the other is a 4000. I like the Pfluegers a lot.. very smooth and don't break the bank. I use one for shakey head baits and the other drop shotting.. I saw KVD talk about his drop shot reel and he liked the 4000 size reels for that purpose.. good enough for me.

+1 on the Stradics, I have both ci4 and regular stradics 2500 & 3000 sizes. the ci4's have the edge on the weight advantage, but, both are very smooth! IMO nothing compares up to this price point, all my other reels feel heavy and no where close to as smooth. Look on ebay for them, I've gotten two regular stradics for right around $70-$75 shipped that are in almost new condition. This may take more time but, but deals can be found.
