i know how to do the technique with the line and pushing the ring down and pulling it out, but apparently it was too deep according to my buddy. not sure if he just wanted to get a good laugh at my expense by pushing it through or not confused

I have been fishing for 65 years and just last year did exactly what you just did. Treble in almost the exact same place for the exact same reason. I had seen the hook removal technique using heavy line looped around the bend of the hook but had never had to use it. The friend who was fishing with me carefully cut the treble off the crankbait and we set up to try it. The thought of trying to push the barb through the thickest part of my thumb almost made me pass out.
Well I instructed him on what to do, we got set up, I said a short prayer and miraculously when he yanked on the line the hook flew out of my thumb with ZERO pain and no blood. I could not believe that the pain was completely gone and the small hole was apparently self sealing because only a few drops of blood came out. I put neosporin on it and wrapped it on a bandage and we finished the day fishing.

I encourage everyone to watch one of the YouTube videos on hook removal because the process really works and sooner or later you are likely to need it.

My wife is an ER nurse, I showed her how to do this, she has showed several docs the youtubes but they refuse to do it. They don't teach free ways to get hooks out in med school.

Doing the quick-yank trick would take away all of the mystique around doctors. And they couildn't charge you as much!

Make sure tetanus shot is up to date when this happens.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

My dad, Darrell, a lot of you guys know him. Lol, he did it to himself. I told him I could get it out but we had to take a picture first,,,,, he wasn't too happy about the picture but he wanted it out.
roflmao He's at the Elite tournament on Grand this weekend, if any of you are there, go by the Garmin trailer, show him the picture and ask him how it feels to get b slapped by a whopper plopper.
