I can attest to this. When I ordered my TR21PD in early 97 I got hull number 23. It weighed 1270lbs. Triton had laid up the first couple of dozen light intentionally thinking dealers would demo them. With a 225EFI I was running in the high 70's out the gate. Soon as the 1yr warranty was up on the motor I put 300 ProMax heads on it, had G-Force Marine add the second set of butterflys to the intake, solid motor mounts, nosecone with low water pickups, and relieved the exhaust. Was able to sling a 29" Yamaha HP type semi-cleaver worked by Tillmas to the revlimiter @ 89mph. With two people, gear, and fuel it would still run in the low 80. Later in the first year or early into the second year Triton made some changes to the pad to make it easier to drive which also slowed it down a bit.

If it is propped right I don't think it would hurt the engine. I've seen offshore boats with single 150s because of the improved fuel mileage.

I bet you had some scary runs getting that thing dialed in. It was really fun learning how to drive those boats but I never had one over about 76-77 intentionally. I probably hit 80 once when the trim stuck, prop came completely out of the water before I figured out what was going on and got off the gas. 80 with the prop out of the water is not a fun ride

Some people can afford what they can afford. Not everyone needs a 65k boat and 20 years of debt to compete.

I played with dozens of props back then, it helped to have a couple of friends with hot rodded Allisons. What I found with the early Triton's was they didn't need a lot of bow lift at those speeds because it had the speed to carry the bow. Over trim it and it definitely wanted to walk.

I had a 98 Champion 203 that came off the pro tour with an Optimax 150. It was really never an issue. That old boat caught as many fish as my current ride with a 225. Lots of times when I'm at the gas pump I wish I still had it. The only time it was ever a problem was in real large rollers but you learn to drive with what you got or just stay out of them.

Its all in the prop. The guy probably fishes alone and doesn't go fast.

When you get older your foot will get lighter. Im pouring gas in a 225 for what? It burns a lot less gas in the 3000 rpm range as it did in the 5000 rpm range. Oh just saying. Starting to see a lot of big girls out there now. Have a good day all. We are on the way out there to see the girls today.

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE
Set the hook first and ask questions later.

maybe they just like to fish in a big safe boat an don't care what other folks think . I know its hard to believe but you don't have to have a 70k boat to go out an have a great time fishing.
