Those base liner sleeves also wear very fast. Vibration/movement of the pole wears it down, and the wobble will get worse and worse over time. Obviously you may want them installed when you are on the water, but nobody is going to sit on them while trailering. Removing the pedestals when you put the boat back on the trailer can considerably extend the useful life of the plastic sleeve.

I am baffled why Ranger continues to use that crappy design. The same supplier has 3/4" king-pin pedestal/base models that work great and have far less wobble than what Ranger uses. I had some on one boat for twenty years with no failure. I may even ditch Ranger's [censored] if I ever recarpet the boat (since I can easily replace the bases at that time).

Going on 5 years, mine isn't wobbling yet! I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't happen. Good info though, I'll try the Windex trick!

Windex....wow, well I will try that then. Thanks guys and good info on taking these down before putting on the trailer I will start with that as well.
