Yes, everyone may laugh and tell jokes at my expense. I've forgotten the combination to my gun safe, and have no idea where the original paperwork is (for all I know, it's inside the safe!).

Have been reading up on dial manipulation and graphing to recover the combination. Looks pretty interesting, and it ought to be simpler because I already know how many wheels my safe has. Figure I'll give this a try tonight before I call a locksmith.

Anyone here have experience doing this?

Have you called the manufacturer?
Do you remember where you bought it? They may have some paperwork.

C'mon Zeke, use the brains they taught you to use in Law School.

Sorry, those are currently being burned out by Secured Transactions, Family Law, Contracts, and Texas P&E at the moment.

Hadn't thought to call Bass Pro and see what info they have, if any.

In 1984 I had a Army field safe that I for got the cobo to. I called a locksmith and when they arived the old man started tapping on the top and front with a small ball pene hammer and opened the safe in about 5 minutes. He then presented me with a bill for $140.00. I was amazed and asked if he would itemize the bill for me.

His reply was $40.00 for the trip; $5.00 for the tapping and $95.00 for know where to tap and how hard to tap. I paid the bill without further questions!

My keypad went out and had to call a locksmith. Under warranty, but had to borrow a gun for the planned trip. Hope you get it figured out.

You might be better off going in. If you can get a copy of the invoice you should have make, model, and perhaps serial #. With that you can call the manufacturer. They may want an Affidavit proving ownership, sometimes signed by a LEO. With all that they should be able to send you something that has the combination, as long as you haven't changed it.

If it sounds like I know it's because my Mom forgot the combination to her safe a few years back.

Depending on the brand there should be a serial number on the back towards one of the top corners.
With that you can call the manufacturer and they will send you a release which you will have to have notarized and send back. They can then get you the combo.

Retirement best job ever.

IF it is a Liberty, I can check the manual and paperwork for mine. I think there is a procedure that involves contacting the manufacturer. I can tell you the Left Right Right left sequences sometimes differ. It is not simple.

Well, the old stethoscope came in handy. Took a few hours, and I dont care to do it again.

But it sure makes me rethink how secure a safe really is.

Write the combo on a piece of tape and put it on the back of the safe.

In all seriousness...text it to yourself. Get a little black book and put all your passwords in it and keep it in the safe...I do this for the wife just in case something unexpected happens to me.

Yeah, I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to write down all the important stuff, like bank accounts, safe combinations, etc., and have it tucked away somewhere that I can get to easily enough. But not someplace obvious that a typical thief might find it.
