Grape and Winkler Creeks have been kind to me over the years. I don't know if its a confidence thing or what, but I have always found that lake to be a good lake for mid depth crankbaits no matter the time of year. I have not fished it in years, but I always caught decent size fish in the 6-8 foot depths. An old bomber flat A bounced around the plethora of stumps in those two creeks should get ya bit a time or two. Also, not uncommon for the blacks to run with the white bass schools when they pop up.

Finally a fisherman who is okay with helping someone out on where to catch fish and doesn't think he owns the lake

OP, I've never been there, but everyone tells me if you don't hit a stump up there, buy a lottery ticket on the way home

I've heard several old timers talk about grape creek, never done worth a darn there myself, have done OK in winkler, and done good in patterson lake but if you make it in there and back to the ramp without battle scars the first time you try that run go buy a lottery ticket like the other guy said.

The bass fishing has been on fire this week, the spawn is on, however there is not much sight fishing due to water clarity. Best baits have been senko's and lizards fished weightless. Some have also been caught on tubes and jigs. If you are after white bass I hear they are moving up the creeks like Post Oak. Lake is in good shape being less than a half foot low. Stumps are still there just can't see them. If you want a trip call me at 972-345-9370

Yeah, it has been at least a dozen years since I visited Grape. I have no clue what it looks like now. I remember back in the late 90's that getting there was quite the challenge and yes, there were stumps. I also remember travelling an old roadbed to get in there, almost like an old farm road, with sticks on each side. You could almost picture what it looked like before impoundment when travelling that old roadbed.

I think Bill Wilcox has a couple videos up from Honey Hole that will help you out on Richland as well. Good luck.

Im not sure if you are very familiar with the lake but if you come out of oak cove and you are headed to the southwest side of the lake winkler creek will be on your left, well once you get directly in front of winkler creek turn and head northwest and there is a big cove with 6 fingers and it is DYNAMITE right now, Ive lived there most all my life and I can honestly tell you that the quantity and quality is definitely there. I tried to upload pictures but cant seem to figure it out. Hope this helps
