I'm looking at a boat that has this toggle switch between Cruise and Troll. Does anyone know what this switch is for? The boat dealer said he didn't even know.

It sounds (looks)like some kind of governing device, it'll probably have to be traced down.

Don't look at the glass as half full or half empty. Look at it as a normal portion of water in a container that's too big. smile <'))))<

You mean like a fuel regulator? I thought of that, but it doesn't really make sense...if your engine is running correctly, I wouldn't think you'd need such a device. I dunno....anyone else have any thoughts?

One thing that might help giving your boat, and engine specs.

I have no clue, and would not even if you did tell me. But someone else may.

I would then call the Manufacture of the boat. I do not think I would buy a boat from someone that did not even know everything about it.

You mentioned that the dealer didn't know, could they possibly contact the previous owner and find out?

Probably...they said they didn't know what it was, but that they could find out. I haven't purchased the boat yet, and as long as it runs good, I don't care much what the switch does. Just curious if anyone would know. Its a '98 Sprint 287FS with a 130hp Johnson motor.

I would assume by it's two positions that it is akin to an underdrive on a truck. Almost like 4lo.

Just to be safe, ya mite want to test drive it to see if it's covering up some kind a problem. Nobody really wants a fixer upper unless you got that kinda time. Good luck.

Yeah, that crossed my mind, but couldn't that only be attributed to the fuel delivery system? Maybe a more steady flow when you're at very low idle speeds? I think it looks aftermarket, but then again, its got the 12v outlet just above it, and most boats come with that from the factory. Who knows...

It may of had a trolling flap on the rear of the motor. Like this.

Down for trolling and up for cruising.

It could have something to do with the batteries too.

Does the boat have a trolling motor? I had a buddy that wired something similiar. When he was using the big motor, he would flip a switch to charge his trolling motor. Flip the switch off, when trolling so as to not drain his starting battery.

Maybe to switch the batteries from the trolling motor to the big motor and vis versa. Are all the batteries daisy chained together?
As stated above, trace it to the source.
Good luck, And when you do find out for sure, let us know what it is for.

Yeah, its got a trolling motor, and three batteries...that crossed my mind as well. I haven't looked close enough to know, but I'm sure its two trolling batteries (maybe rigged as 24v) and one cranking. We'll see...maybe I can get the original owner's phone number...
