Why do some people use the word 'THE' in front of the freeway names, in certain parts of the country? In California, they say "The 405" or "The 101".

Sounds kinda ghey to me. Just think if we were saying: The 20, The 30, The 408, The 35E........sounds silly.

Take the 405 to the 101, jump on the Santa Monica Lewinski freeway. Get off at the Shlossinger cutoff. Stop get out, cut your Shlossinger off, then take the 31.

Don't forget THE Bush here in DFW.

I'm surprised when I meet grown people that don't know what inside or outside the loop means.

Houston folks referenced the loop way back when we lived there. No other Texas city I know of uses the reference.

San Antonio calls 1604 and 410 the big loop, and the small loop, respectively.

Houston is 610 loop and beltway 8 for the big loop.

Tyler has THE loop also...

Austin....360, 290, 183, 35, 130 and Mopac.

And highway highway 99 toll road is the biggest loop. We've got three in this town.

What does Mopac stand for?
