As long as it is below the hull.

Those are my screen shots using a Humminbird 1198c SI Combo with the SI transducer on my bow trolling motor. All Humminbird Side Imaging models will do that.
Works great from 0 to about 12 mph. Just need some movement for the Imaging pulses to scan and proper adjustment of the screen scroll speed.

Is this speed slow enough for a kayak?

Looks great to me.

Well, what is the orientation of the SI image as you see it? Is the little blue "bullet" at the top of the screen the current kayak position?

I see it well on Wayne's graphs where the the SI is side by side with the traditional view. If I am processing this correctly, I wonder why the SI images aren't flipped so that the vertical side is horizontal???

The line down the middle represents your boat. So I imagine that the blue arrow at the top just represents the direction the bow is pointing. As far as the line being vertical, it may be that it is able to show more on each side vs if it was horizontal. Or maybe that it just to keep easy representation of the left and right side of the boat.

There is some very good video on YouT about how Si works and what the images mean. If you are considering Si, I would encourage you to spend some time on YT watching some videos. They are going to explain it much better than I can in a paragraph of two.

Just bought a Helix 7 Si G2. Looking forward to some more advantage on the water.

Anyone update their standard transducer for the HD transducer? It looks like it you send Humminbird the unused std transducer and $85 they will send you an HD one. I see where it reads more depth, but the major advantage is a High def image. Anyone else think about biting on this offer? Wish I could see some images of the two transducers side by side. So far haven't found much.

Edited to add that the stand transducer: XNT9SI180T and the HD one is: XHS9HDSI180T

I've always used the HD T ducer, never did a side by side comparison but Wayne P says it's better and he knows the Birds.

As far as the SI running horizontally that would just be poor use of that nice wide screen.

No, it does not read "more depth". It produces sharper images due to the 2" longer SI crystals.
The "High def" images that the HD in HDSI stands for is the 800 kHz that larger SI units have. The Helix 5 SI model and Helix 7 SI models do not have 800 kHz.

Thanks for the help guys. I must be reading this wrong: Humminbird Helix 7 Si, G2 It says with the std Transducer 1500' and the optional transducer 2500'???

So if I have a Helix 7, and it doesn't have 800 kHz, is the HD model a waste of money?

The 1500' is depth reading for 83/200 kHz (standard sonar) and the 2500' is depth reading for 50 kHz used for salt water which requires a 50 kHz transducer and I think only special international models have 50 kHz capabilities.
The Helix 7 has 83/200 kHz for standard sonar and 455 kHz for side Image, you should notice some improvement in your Side Image display using a HD transducer. Side Image is good to a depth of 150'.

Thanks for the help with the explanations on the different transducers available. Bluntly, at first I actually bought a Helix 5, gps g2 without Si and returned it and picked up this 7 w/ Si. This electronics buying decision has been a little more complicated than it use to be in the 70s when you just bought a Lowrance Green box flasher and you were the envy of all of your fishing buddies. Enough of the old guy jokes, thanks again.
