Verify if the light is going out when you close it like it should. Our LG fridge got to where the light wasn't turning off and the heat it generated raised the temp. Just took the light out and it works great.

First thing I'd do is clean the coils
I'd also 90% fill four empty Powerade plastic bottles with salt water. Screw the caps on tightly then seal the caps with HVAC aluminum tape. Freeze the salt water Powerade bottle solid (might take 48-72Hrs) in a good freezer.
Then put the frozen like a rock Powerade bottles in the sketchy freezer.
Since doing the above, I have prolonged the life of a borderline freezer in the garage.
It used to get down to about 35 degrees, but since cleaning the coils and back filling the freezer with the frozen solid Powerade bottles, it works like new. And how is he supposed to freezer these bottles

He should go to Bottlecap Alley and have them freeze the bottles solid for 72Hrs, then pick them up in an insulated cooler and take them home.

Here's how I troubleshot this...
1. Empty freezer to deep freezer. 2. Up cold setting to max freeze cold. 3. Wait 24 hours, keeping door closed. 4. Open door, check temp, 40*. 5. Think and consider facts. 6. Place palm on steel vented cover over rear coils inside freezer, feel a little warmth. 7. Hmmmm
Now what do I do?

Did you clean the coils yet? As others have mentioned, 21 yr old coils accumulate a LOT of hair, dust, and gunk which can greatly reduce a fridge/freezers cooling efficiency. WAWI, of all people could probably attest to what dirty coils do to undercounter and stand-up refrigerators in restaurants.

21 years is a good run. Beer fridge it and replace it. Although I would check the defroster thingy after you get the new one in place. That way you also have a tequila freezer. Katt gets it.

Katt wins, Duck Hunter gets an Honorable Mention.
Defrost timer is on the way, $21.16. I will clean it up and vacuum the coils when I pull it out. The defrost heater is stuck in the 'on'position. The one moving part that can cause this is the defrost timer. This fridge has been cleaned a couple of times, probably dirty but not clogged. If it was, the fridge would suffer too.
I'm betting on it, will keep y'all informed.

Cast will be successful with the Powerade bottle, salt water DIY fix method and you all will eat your words. (Note: If you only have access to Gatorade bottles, they will work just as well.)
