Went to Newman’s yesterday (Friday) afternoon. Went across and upstream from the trailway bridge. Fishing was slow. The fish are definitely less aggressive than before. Water has dropped several inches from last weekend. Fished for about 2 1/2 hrs and walked away with 9 keepers. Caught about same amount of undersized. Didn’t want the jigs, rooster tails is what caught 90% of ‘em.

Guess that's why I'm headed towards Somerville tomorrow. The fillets are awesome and well worth ones efforts.

Cool, I'll be waiting for the Report+Pics from one of the "Top 10 NBWBF Pro's" listed in the "Texas Parks+Wildlife Magazine" flehan clap grin

It has been nearly 11 months since I last fished this little lake Somerville creek. We were not disappointed.

Arrived at Irwin bridge around 5pm because a friend of mine text me to let me know he was there. Fished a hole and pulled out a nice white on second cast. Fished for several more minutes with not a tap one. Moved downstream in search for a bite. Fished several other areas that were picture perfect without any takers. I went back to my buddy and said hey man, lets get out of here, there are very few fish up this far in the creek, lets walk in at Newmans bottom. So we did. Arrived around 6 pm and everyone was walking back out as we are walking in. Any how, with little to no extra time to do a good search, I pretty much fished the trail way bridge area and caught two nice size hybrids and eight big mega whites. The hybrids were not legal length, so they swim for another day. My buddy went upstream a tad and he caught seven nice whites. Under flashlight power we walked out with fifteen real nice fish. Not to shabby for about an hour of fishing in this area I haven't fished in two years. Boy has the creek ever changed. Places that use be my honey hole are now filled in with sand and log jams, pretty shallow area now. I have several projects that have to get done tomorrow and I'm trying to figure out how to get them done in a hurry so I can get back over there and put a limit of fish on a stringer. The females I cleaned had egg sacks that are at the right consistency for spawning.
PS; As we were walking in we saw several nice stringers being taking out. Didn't look like limits, but more like 12 to 18 fish. I did see two guys at the creek that both limited out. Everyone had nice size fish on their stringers as well. Can't wait to get back and get a limit myself.

Sure wish there was a way to drive in. That walk back with a heavy stringer ain't it my friend.

I hear you fishytx. That's why after the first limit I carried out this year, I went the next day and got a cart from Sam's. It's been worth every penny.

I saw several carts yesterday. Some not so gravel road friendly. Hard plastic wheels on a kids wagon. But that pull cart you mention is great, rubber tires and all. I just wish the front wheels would turn like that of a kids wagon....

Yesterday we did ok at Newman Bottom. Arrived around noon and the folks walking out of Newman said the bite was dead and I didn’t see any fish coming out. Any how we walked in and did pretty good. We walked out with 42. Watched three guys with live bait tear it up, they left with like 60. It looked like everyone was catching fish, one here one there type thing, so they are in there but this cool front has slowed the bite down a tad.

It was a great weekend. I got to fish with both my mentors. Ben (Hook-Line&Sinker) Saturday and Doug (fishtx) on Sunday. It's been over 10 months since I got to fish with the Masters. flehan

Sent J-Moe a text letting him know that I was going back to Newmans and he said 10-4 I'll meet you there. I already had a friend there with two of his kids so we had a group of five today. The bite was slower than yesterday and the water dropped a little and it was much clearer today. The fish were holding tight to structure. I'm going to take a wild guess at our catch between our group and say we caught a good fifty fish, this includes the dinks. Hauled out something like 35 total. This little cool front sure has slowed the bite down, but they are still in there and they will bite your line. Might even go back tomorrow, we will see. There's only like two more weeks of this good fishing left for this year, so one must make the best of every day that remains. LOL
Crazy thing happened this afternoon as well. I was in a spot catching some fish and I had tossed my fish behind me because I had my stringer tied off just downstream. Any how as I was tossing my second fish back behind me this big owl flies between J-Moe and I as it crossed the creek, landed behind me, I turned to look at it, it twisted its head around and looked at me, then it grabbed one of my fish and flew away with it. It was about fifteen feet behind me. That in itself made this trip worth while, it was really cool to see.

That Owl is something I will never forget. That was cool cool

The magical clouser really worked well for me today fishing in that clear shallow water.
