Got there and saw some other fisherman there and they had 2 or 3 each. I walked back up stream to the S curve just above the low water crossing. There was a spot I though I could try role casting my four of. It was a little pass 10:00 by then and I decide to try a 1/32 blue bucktail jig with my spinning rod. I caught 18 white in the next 20 minutes and then it slowed down. I caught another 7 in the next hour or so. I caught all 25 in 1 hole and all on the same jig. With the light jig and the wind I had to keep an eye on my line and would see it jump when I fish would hit. No throw backs and 8 big females. Sorry no pics, the battery on my phone died.

Troy: Great job on catching the white bass! It sounds like they are very particular to the lures they are hitting??

Yes they are. The lighter is the best right now. I was kind of using my spinning rob light of fly rod, letting the wind and the current move my jig. Most of the time I just saw my line move and not feel the bite.

Tried a couple spots yesterday. Caught a few black bass in Jerdelle. Stopped by Cedar and Nails and no luck. Also no flow. Stopped by Irwins and fished a while. J-Moe, saw you with the fly rod. Caught a few black bass, one decent sized. My friend caught the only white bass on a small rattle trap. Didn't see much else caught besides bream and small catfish. J-moe, if you want to paddle up to the dam give me a shout. I will bring my canoe and we can give it a try.

I was going to wait till March before catching these whites this year but I might have to give in and go here pretty soon. March is when whites in our area are really on the move with the spawn. Mid Feb till the last of March has always produced good numbers though, much better after a few warm nights.

I only stayed for about 45 minutes, didn't get a bite. So I tried Cedar. All I caught were a bunch of of undersized crappie. No flow and no white bass. They shut the flow back down below the spillway so it probably isn't worth the paddle now. Thanks for the offer though.

Wow banana, what a great morning this morning though.

I walked into Newman's bottom. I caught 17 but 11 of those were huge females. 15 inches are better and weighed 1.4 lbs. or more. I weighed 3 of them and they were 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 lbs. each. I didn't even measure or weigh the 2 biggest ones I caught. They had to be around 16 inches and just under 2 lbs. Awesome fights on the fly rod.

I caught 14 of them before 8:30 then walked a long ways downstream hitting multiple spots. I only caught 3 in the last hour and a half. But I figured out why they quit biting, they were actively spawning.

The long shallow runs both above and below the trail way bridge were just lit up with spawning activity. That's the first active spawning I've seen this season. And it was just crazy how much activity there was in those stretches.

Great report J-Moe. Guess I caught them staging on Thursday. Those big females are sure fun to catch, but as far as cleaning and eating I prefer big males. I have not seen active spawning on the Yeagua for a while. The last time I seen it was at Cedar Creek. I sure wanted to be there this morning also, but I semi retired and work security on the weekends. Should tell my boss I need off January, February, and March. I can't get away again until toward the end of next week, I will have to see how much rain we get.

The Yegua is on fire flame

I walked into Newman's bottom and fished until 10:30 this morning. I caught 27 and left them biting.

I started in my favorite spot using a 1/32 ounce white fly and only caught 2 in the first 30 to 45 minutes. I moved to a new spot and still wasn't catching anything so I changed over to a 1/32 ounce yellow marabou fly I tied last night. The first 7 casts I caught white bass. I ended up catching 12 in that spot.

I then decided to go upstream of the bridge. I caught 1 in the first spot I fished, 3 in the next spot and 9 in the final spot I fished.

The majority of the fish I caught below the bridge were in the 14 to 16 inch range. The biggest was 16.5 inches and weighed 1.7 lbs. The majority of the fish I caught upstream of the bridge were in the 12 to 14 inch range.

There was a big crowd and almost everybody was catching at least a few. The fish are everywhere. One pair of guys were fishing in a shallow run with rooster tails and had 14 on the stringer. I bet even the Fishtales dude could have caught a couple fish this morning. Well that might be stretching things a bit, but you get the idea. grin roflmao

Sorry guys but I have to work since we do not get a Monday holiday until Memorial Day. 24/7 news cycle and I'm the only tech supporting the business at the moment.. welcome to corporate ownership in the information age. Wet weather is gonna make for some interesting fishing on the creeks! Watch yourselves and don't go swimming wink

Wow, it was broke twice last year and twice this year. Both times in January and February. Great stuff. Thanks for the information.
