So...I have my house up for sale and the boat pulled out of the garage and covered. HOW CAN I KEEP THE NEIGHBORHOOD CATS/COONS OUT OF IT???

For some reason they all seem to be intrigued by it and think its a cool place to hang out. I chased 3 out of there this morning. The mess of cat hair and muddy cat footprints everywhere are driving me crazy! Anyone else find a solution to this problem short of guns or antifreeze?

I've often wondered if a battery operated motion dection halloween or xmas ornament would work. The kind that says "Ho Ho Ho" or maybe it screems when you walk by.

From what I'm hearing, you probably shouldn't put out anything these days that says "Ho, Ho, Ho." laugh What I have done is put out a rat trap with a little cat food on it. I taped a little cloth on the bar to cushion the blow to keep it from breaking a leg or a nose, and then set the trap. After it bites the cat once, then all you have to do is set a few of them around without setting them and they will shy away. Mothballs work well also. Wingnut

I discourage the antifreeze thing. It causes a slow agonizing death. If you decide death to the offenders is the only option, at least shoot 'em and make it a quick humane death. The mothballs thing would probably work.

No fish is too good for the grease.

Thats what I did but didn't cushion it. They were neighbor's cats. Still had to set it several times, I guess their little pea brain couldn't retain the pain information. Just wish I could've seen it in action 1 time. I'm not on the top of the list for loving cats. mad

your boat wont smell like mothballs if you put them in somekind of open container. As stated previously, ammonia works the best, just make darn sure you don't spill it.

Look at the bright side, at least your boat must smell like fish.

Maybe just a good wash will get the fish smell out and stop attracting the coons and cats.
