thats all fish and baitfish, . likely a small school of small whites, or crappie. what id your DI sensitivity set to. u need to go over some known structure, then tune your unit.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

the slight line on the left is a fish going up to eat a baitfish, or a very small tree, likely not though. drop a lirttle fishie by creme lures, the small white one with the red or black spot. crappie and whites love them. then u can start getting a better idea what your seeing.

I'm having a real hard time making the electronics pay off. Don't feel bad. I'm in the same "boat" as you. Have a Helix 7 SI and get decent images on 2d and almost nothing on di or si. I have adjusted the settings in so many ways to no avail. It's very frustrating to have this unit and no being able to use it to it's full potential. I've adjusted the transducer after several trips hoping to get better images with no luck. >E
Columbus took a chance and he made it.

Di and SI on my 7SI suck also,..the only reason I bought it was to run next to my Garmin 93 SV to use for GPS because It will take the Lakemaster chip and the Garmin wont. The 7 has good sonar, but the SI and the DI are usless, my Garmin make the 7 look like a kids toy..

Alright, I shrunk the width from 120 down to 60 and my graph started making alot more sense. Thanks for the help, you know who you are!

Trying to read the high dollar electronics reminds me a lot of looking at sonograms before my daughter was born. The nurse was like here's the head, hand, foot, etc. If it wouldn't have been for the heartbeat I would have felt like a total idiot.
Can anyone explain how the sonar units are able to reveal/show an actual shadow under some of the object or fish revealed on side imaging? I just can't wrap my brain around a sonar return revealing a shadow.
Thanks for all the time, information, and photos in this section!!

Imagine the transducer is shining a flashlight to either side of the boat. The fish or trees would make shadows. Same concept. It is actually easier to tell what the object, tree, brushpile, etc is by looking at the shadow instead of the actual object. Kind of like making shadow puppets on the walls. If that makes sense.

That illustration does help make more sense of it. Just very amazing technology. Healing up from a surgery and can't wait to get my recently installed helix on the water!! Thanks

Thumpy can you explain the width adjustment you referred to in your post?
