If friends are going with you be sure they don't have any records or DWI on their past, without going through the proper paperwork in advance.

I haven't fished in Canada (Saskatchewan and Ontario) in decades but the trip to Lac LaRonge, Saskatchewan was my favorite of all time for catching. My dad took the whole family, we drove there from North Dakota, and besides the incredible fishing I got to see the Northern Lights. Don't remember where we stayed but remember the Cree Indian guide and catching huge walleye, seeing monster northern pike trying to eat the 10 to 15 lb pike we were reeling in. Just now googled it to make sure I saw what I saw and sure enough, it is rated one of the best places to see the Northnern Lights from. It was in the 60's when I was there and the last 100 miles was dirt road, the Churchill River was as far as you could drive into Saskatchewan at the time. Don't have any idea what the fishing is like there now but looks like some decent places to stay.

From an article on best places in Canada to see the Northern Lights

Northern Saskatchewan

North of Saskatoon, there is a wealth of Saskatchewan destinations to choose from for a incredible northern lights experience. Eleven provincial parks, many open year-round, provide the perfect setting for an aurora-themed camping trip. The northeast city of Melfort has been called the city of the Northern Lights due to the frequency in which they appear. And the town of La Ronge is a starting point for many northern lights adventure tours, including fly-in ice fishing trips and dog sledding expeditions over frozen lakes.

Take a look at Delaney Lake Lodge in NW Ontario. Been there twice. Great people. Guide every day, all meals, shore lunch. You can fish for Walleye. SMBass, Pike, Musky, and Lake Trout. Some of our group catches all 5 species for the"grand slam". I primarily fly fish and haven't caught a Musky.
I enjoy Pine Cliff but they no longer have a meal plan.

Have you ever done this type of fishing before, i.e., fly-in lodge, northlands fishing, etc.?

Make sure you have at least one shore lunch. Fresh walleye, fried with taters and onions.

Totem Lodge, Lake of the Woods.
Fine dining, Guide, Walleye Shore lunch everyday.
They make a fried concoction of fries, onions, squash and it is awesome.
The meal they role the fish in to fry is crunched up Wheaties and is killer.

This is true. Middle Eastern terrorist or welcome but if you have some low level arrest on your record you best beware.

Do you have a preference on fly-in or a drive-in type trip? What time of year are you looking to go? Pike fishing gets really good starting late August and into September. They go deeper in the summer, so catching a big one is a lot harder unless you happen to catch one walleye fishing. I have been going to Canada since the early '90s and have been to many places. In my opinion, you have to do a fly-in once in your life. The experience is unforgettable.

Here is a preety good outfit. Check them out: https://www.nestorfalls.com/outposts/

There are so many options for Pike & Walleye trips in Canada you will get dizzy researching. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info , I am glad the trip will be in 2019, gives me plenty of time
for research.

I have fished extensively in south Louisiana , the Florida Keys , and a few times in Long Island sound.

I have never done Canada or Alaska,
