Reliability is not a question. Anyone who has owed anything made by Honda, Fourwheelers, Lawn Mowers, Cars, ect. knows this. Of course there is always an exception to the rule. I just have not heard any performance numbers. A Basscat puma with a 250 Merc, will run upper 70's. Will that same boat run 70 with a Honda, or are we talking mid 60's?

Slightly off topic, but I have a 1999 Honda 40 hp four stroke on my 17 g3 and she purrs like a kitten. Fires on first turn every time and i fish her 100 times/yr. No issues whatsoever.

I have a 521 Ranger with a Honda 225 and can run 60-61 mph by the GPS if I want to, but I have only ran that to see what it would and could do when I first bought it. I usually run some where around 50 and always know that I will get there safely with no motor problems.

Not the fastest outboard out there but super super reliable, they just don't have problems.

Not fast, but they will outlast all the other motors... There's a reason our own Coast Guard runs Honda's on all their boats.. Also see a few pilot boats down here in Galveston powered by 2-3 Honda's!

I bought a new Honda 250 last year to repower my 206 champion. I couldnt be happier with it. Its very quiet, the gas mileage is crazy good, and you change the oil once a year. I did my research before buying and I came across a few original 250 powerheads that had over 9000 hours on them.

As far numbers, its 2 mph slower than the 250 hpdi that was on it.

I Ontario there is a big outfit that runs several lodges. All their boats, probably 50 or more, have Honda 40 HP motors. When I asked why Honda they said they are the most dependable out there and they are easy to work on. They are the most quiet motor I have ever seen. I was really surprised at how easy a 40 hp was to pull start. Could not believe it.

This boat has a great hole shot too.

Yes, it sips gas and the low end torque is incredible. I damn near put in my tail gate the first time I loaded it on the trailer.

I call BS on any technician that claimed they are easy to work on!! I promise a coastal tech will use 3 times the curse word than a Yamaha or merc. Lol.

Empty, I've seen a cougar powered by a merc touch 80-81. With a Honda 70mph. Big difference on a performance boat, but it might not be as bad on a heavy boat.
