Sounds like Wal-Mart might have run afoul of the law somewhere and is trying to make sure it never happens again.

I've had wal-mart tell me the same. First time I showed them both licenses. Second time I told them to eff off and they still rang me up. Some stupid wal mart policy.

If youre buying beer for an underage kid, why in the hell would you bring them in with you? Did Wal-Mart ever think about that?
Stupid rule. I suspect if/when I have kids, Ill take them grocery shopping and buy beer. It doesnt mean Im buying it for the kid.
So stupid.

I bought a dirty 30 the other day with my kid with me at the Walmart self checkout. The lady came over and punched in her code to approve it and didn't ask me for an ID.

So, hypothetically, if my wife was buying groceries and had my 4 year old with her, would they then not sell her beer or wine? (Hypothetical because I don't have a 4 year old)

So technically under TABC rules if she has a reasonable suspicion that you will give him any of the beer she is legally obligated not to sell it to you. But she's applying the exact letter of that rule.

From time to time the Lcb will set up a sting doing the same. Older male with younger looking male with no id. Cashiers can receive a 10,000 fine for selling to someone with out an id. That being said if he had an id and last name the same no problem sell it. A lot of pressure is put on the cashier but she could have called for help from supervisor if both parties had the same last name. Been there and had to approve the sale as both had id's and same last name. It was a sure thing they were father and son. Minors will try anything to get the beer.

In Texas it is legal for a parent to provide alcohol to their own minor child. Hasn't changed in over 40 years. Most resturants, bars, and other establishments that serve or sell alcohol are unaware of law or have policy of their own.

Interesting. Personally, I think its ridiculous we can send an 18 year old to kill or be killed 3 years before they can legally have a cold one. Get the law changed or save yourself some possible aggravation and dont show up to the counter with someone under 21.

They often check my ID and I'm grey headed! I just pull out my driver's license, and them hand them a business card from a local optometrist. Makes them madder than heck.
