would it be a shocker if I said Toyota hired a cali delta guide and sent out a couple executives for a week just to mark way points?

Not at all. Pros sponsors will provide them with anything to help them succeed and promote products.

The last time they were at the Sabine I got calls from 3 elites. How they knew I fished there occasionally I have no idea. Imagine the calls to guys that actually fish there often. Before Rayburn event last year I know a few locals that were begged info from some elites. You're living under a rock if you don't think the top guys are buying info. I was offered pretty much as much sponsor tackle as I wanted to take. This goes way back. I know a former elite guy who 10 years ago said the same thing. He didn't barter for info so he couldn't make it on tour after 1 year

I dont know why there is an issue here. We want the pros to be held to a certain standard but in a way we contradict ourselves; hypocrites. How many times in a local tournament do you see certain anglers sharing information and the cash amount is a lot smaller than the big circuits. Not only do you hear about it, but you know who they are. Heck some are blatant in sharing info or in asking for information before launch or after the tournament. So let me ask this, what is the difference between bouncing a check for $1 or bouncing a check for $100. Would there be uproar if they hired a guide on that lake. How about this, I have a championship tournament on Texoma in the summer/fall of 2018 and in 10 years of fishing the lake I still cannot master it. Sometimes I do ok, but out of the money is not anything to brag on. My work schedule and family commitments does not allow me the time to fish the lake every day. So does it make me a bad person if I were to hire a guide to teach me the lake and show me hot spots; it happens all the time. You cant really be mad at them. They are doing what they have to do to compete, as far as we know, they are not breaking any law. Ask yourself this, if you made it that far in you fishing career, what would you do to be remain competitive. Before we point fingers maybe we need to look in the mirror, just my opinion.

I have personally spoken with a few guys that/did run the tour and people are most definitely getting info any how/way they can. Everyone wants to thing the best of everyone, but it's just not the way of the world when money is involved and sponsorships. Those guys cutting checks to pros aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts or charity, it's to promote their product and make money.

They didn't pass the no info rule just for the hell of it out of nowhere, but in the same breath, there's not (yet) a proven way to actually regulate it. So this will continue on into this year and beyond for the Elites.

As for those of you who think this isn't happening, I admire and wish I had the naivety that you do.

Depends on whether they are breaking any rules or not. If not then do what you have to do. I've hired guides before ( no rules infraction ) but the problem with that is so did some other guys. Don't know who got the best spots, maybe one of his buddies. As for as bouncing a check, if it's for a dollar I wad it up and throw it in the trash. If it's for a $100 we have a problem. Maybe some others have proof that Elites cheat, I don't and wouldn't dare accuse them. My only experience came on Richland Chambers years ago when I ran into Ken Cook a BASS pro from OK who was prefishing for a tournament. I started to tell him about some fish I was catching and he politely told me to stop because it was against the rules. The few I know and have met I hold in high esteem and respect them as professionals to always do the right thing. At the same time I realize the human factor is always at play as well as the pressure to be successful and make a living. So........

I have seen this first hand. Hiring a guide before a tournment. Sending people out to fish ahead of an event. And buying info for tournments. Myself I could never do that. I would rather lose then win without self respect!!!! Dock talk is all it is and that is always ok.

I could be wrong, but if the rules and scenarios of "unknown lake" on Major League Fishing are actually enforced like I see on TV, it appears the same guys that do well on the Elite Tour also do well in MLF events. So my theory is those dude are just really good at bass fishing.

Many good points and observations.

I'd only add that I don't know of a single sport, pro or amateur, that doesn't operate in the exact same manner where competitors try to find and use every possible advantage.

James N. will rebound, I can feel very confident of this. He is a great guy that will pick himself up, dust himself off and be back at it.
