Yep. The company that installed our new system 6 years ago offers a spring and fall checkup for a nominal fee. They do a lot of safety checks on the control system, check the burner flame, change the filter, service the AC if needed, clean the coils etc. Its a smaller company and I know the owner. They still do things right. I figure it is good insurance on keeping the system running.

First house I owned was brand new, but called out a company for the routine maintenance. It was a bit expensive because the house had 2 units. The gas line going into one of the units in the attic didn't have any goop or tape on the threads and was leaking gas. Glad I called them. Had them out twice a year. 18 months on the units and one of the compressor fan motors burnt out. Not sure if there was anything they could have seen or caught on it, but had to fight with the warranty company a bit until we provided the invoices of the maintenance.
Second house I owned was previously owned (15 yr old house/unit). Called out a company to inspect and do the maintenance. Said everything was great and well maintained by previous owners. Good sense of relief. Couple years go by, have the company out for the routine maintenance and the first month that the heater runs, the bill is twice what it normally is. Called them back out to see what the problem might be. The tech had left the unit in Emergency Mode so that the outside heat pump was off and the system was running on the electrical heaters in the attic only. OUCH! They didn't charge for the second visit, but didn't cover the additional electrical bill $$$.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Nope, not until something goes wrong. I change the filters frequently, bearings are sealed, and when i had it done many years ago they didnt really do anything except bloe out the condenser and act busy. A ripoff.
