No, I do not trim the weed guard. We have the weed guard set in the head to the length we want it so it passes just behind the barb of the hook we found this was best. www.viperxplures.com This is the way all jig weed guards should be, the end of the weed guard ends just past the barb of the hook when you press it down. Many jigs come with a weed guard that is too long. I don't buy any of those. I fan out the weed guard a little.

I trim the weed guard too depending on the weight of the jig. 1/4 oz I trim it almost even with the hook but leave it at least 1/8 past the hook on a 1 oz.

I just cut off about half of the weed guard fiber at the base near the jig head. To me, it makes it easier for hook ups, especially in deep water. As long as I leave enough to keep the hook away from obstacles that would allow hang ups. To me, the manufacturers put too much material on the jig anyway. Good luck
